I tell them about the type of research I want us to focus on, the opportunities I want us to create, the kind of work environment I envision and the impact I believe we can make if we build something truly innovative. When I finally finish, I let out a slow breath before looking around the table.
“So,” I say softly, “I wanted to ask if you’d give me the honor of working with me in the new company.”
Silence follows for a moment and I continue before anyone can respond.
“Lilly and another shareholder you’ll meet later on will be investors in the company,” I explain. “And I know this is new. I know we won’t have the reputation or stability Bio-Rene already has, but I genuinely believe we can build something incredible together.”
Rose leans forward slightly. “Why us?”
I smile softly at that before answering honestly, “Because I’ve worked with you for years and no one can convince me that you aren’t some of the best researchers out there.”
Their expressions shift slightly at that.
“With all of you on my team, I honestly think we could do amazing things,” I continue.
I deliberately avoid mentioning the project I’ve secretly been working on. Until they’re part of the company and they have signed non-disclosure agreements, that project remains confidential.
Benji glances toward Lilly. “Would the company be a subsidiary of Wood Corporation?”
“No,” Lilly says firmly. “This company will belong entirely to Sierra. It’ll have nothing to do with Wood Corporation.”
That visibly surprises some of them, probably because they assumed Lilly represents Wood Corporation.
Calvin leans back slightly before asking, “And what exactly would we be getting in return?”
I nod, expecting the question.
“Competitive salaries,” I answer immediately. “Full medical coverage, yearly bonuses, research funding, flexible schedules depending on projects, profit-sharing opportunities once the company stabilizes and access to international conferences and partnerships.”
That gets their full attention and I can already see some excitement behind Rose’s eyes.
“And,” I add carefully, “you wouldn’t just be researchers. You’ll be co-founders of the company, standing alongside me as we make history.”
Silence settles again, though this time it feels thoughtful instead of uncertain. Finally, Benji exhales slowly.
“This is a really big step,” he says honestly. “Would it be alright if we thought about it first?”
The others nod in agreement.
“Of course, take all the time you need," I reply immediately. “And honestly, I still need to secure a proper location and get everything officially set up anyway. Once I do, I’ll contact you all so you can come see the space yourselves.”
