His voice sharpens instantly. “What happened?”
“I’ll explain when you get here.”
“On my way,” he says, then hangs up.
I don’t even know how long I spend waiting before I hear the elevator doors open outside. I rush out of my room immediately with Lilly right behind me just in time to see Noah walk in first with several of his men behind him.
The second he sees my face, his expression hardens with concern. He approaches quickly. “What happened?”
I shake my head because I don’t even know where to begin. Noah gently guides me toward the couch while Lilly comes and sits on my other side.
A few minutes later, Lilly gets a call from reception and after talking to them, a few minutes later the elevator doors open and Adrian steps inside her apartment.
The second Noah sees him, his expression darkens. “What the hell is he doing here?”
Adrian’s jaw tightens immediately. “I could ask the same thing.”
The tension between them rises so fast it’s almost tangible.
“Stop,” I say sharply before things escalate. “I asked Adrian to come.”
Both men turn toward me immediately.
“I need answers, and Adrian can give them to me,” I explain.
Lilly folds her arms. “Okay, someone needs to explain what the hell is happening because I’ve been very patient.”
I take a shaky breath before turning toward Adrian. "Remember the wellness center you booked me into?”
He nods slowly, confusion already settling across his face. “Yes.”
“And remember the woman I told you I met there? Elena?”
Another nod. “Yes… why?”
I turn toward Noah then finally force the words out, “She’s the nurse that tried to kill me after my accident.”
Silence crashes over the room. No one moves or breathes. It’s so quiet I swear I could hear a pin drop.
Noah is the first to recover. “Are you sure?”
“As sure as my heart beats.”
Noah nods once. “Sounds like a plan.”
“I’m coming too,” I say immediately.
"No, you’re not,” Lilly says instantly.
I turn toward her in disbelief. “Why not?”
Lilly stares at me like I’m ridiculous. “Because your announcement ceremony is in two days… which means we need to start preparations.”
I blink. “What preparations?”
“You need a dress and a whole bunch of stuff, and we have little time,” she clarifies dramatically.
Both Noah and Adrian look completely lost and that’s when I realize they have no idea what we are talking about.
Noah frowns. “What announcement ceremony?”
“Oh right, I forgot to tell you." Lilly smiles brightly, and then she points at me. “Sierra is my cousin by blood.”
The silence that follows is absolutely priceless and so are the looks carved on Noah and Adrian’s faces and for the first time since waking up this morning, I almost laugh.
