The realization made Sienna’s heart tighten with worry, but she also knew there was no changing his mind. Zachary had already decided what he needed to do, just as she had expected he would.
"Our bedroom is on the second floor," he continued softly. "Wait for me there. I’ll be back before you go to sleep."
Sienna looked into his eyes for a long moment. She wanted to tell him not to go, to ask him to stay home with her and Skylar instead. But she knew this was something he couldn’t ignore. Those men had hurt her, and Zachary would never allow them to walk away without facing the consequences.
In the end, she simply nodded.
"Take care," she whispered, her voice filled with quiet concern.
A gentle smile appeared on Zachary’s lips. He brushed his thumb lightly across her cheek before lowering his hand, silently reassuring her that he would return safely.
Then he glanced at Skylar, who was waiting patiently beside the elevator with innocent excitement, completely unaware of the conversation between the adults.
"Go on," Zachary said with a smile. "Show your mom your room."
Skylar’s cheerful grin returned immediately. He happily took Sienna’s hand again just as the elevator doors slid open. Still holding her hand tightly, he led her inside, already talking excitedly about everything he wanted to show her.
At the same time, Zachary remained standing in the hallway, quietly watching them disappear behind the closing doors before turning to leave the house.
...
In a warehouse hidden in a quiet corner of the city, Zachary stepped out of the car with Logan following close behind him.
The night was silent, but the atmosphere around the building felt heavy, as though it had been waiting for his arrival.
A man with a military build approached them immediately. He was Brad Carter, Zachary’s trusted head of security.
"Boss," Brad greeted respectfully as he stepped aside. "I’ll take you to them."
Zachary gave a slight nod and followed without asking another question.
Ever since Sienna had been attacked, a cold anger had settled deep inside him. Seeing the bruises on her body and the deep wound on her hand had left him with only one purpose tonight. He had come to punish the men responsible.
Brad led them through a long hallway before stopping in front of a thick metal door. Without hesitation, he unlocked it and pushed it open.
"Boss, after you."
Zachary walked into the room first while Brad and Logan remained a step behind him.
Five men were kneeling in the center of the room with their hands tied behind their backs. Their faces were swollen with bruises, and dried blood stained their lips and noses. It was obvious they had already been softened a bit by his team to make them behave before Zachary arrived. Yet, none of them looked as though they had completely lost their defiance.
Brad leaned slightly toward him and spoke in a low voice.
"Boss, the one in the middle is their leader. He’s the one who attacked the young madam with a knife."
Zachary’s expression did not change.
The room remained silent, but everyone standing there knew exactly what that silence meant.
Logan had worked beside him long enough to recognize it. Whenever Zachary became this quiet, his anger had already reached its limit.
Without saying a word, Zachary slowly lifted one hand.
"This one is mine."
He had promised Sienna that he would personally deal with the people who had hurt her. He had no intention of letting anyone else carry out that promise.
He tightened his grip on the bat and struck again.
Each swing was controlled and deliberate. He avoided fatal blows, aiming instead for the man’s shoulders, arms, and legs. The gangster leader tried to endure the punishment, but before long, his cries filled the warehouse. His earlier confidence disappeared, replaced by desperate gasps as the pain overwhelmed him.
Only after the man could no longer fight back did Zachary finally lower the bat.
He drew a slow breath, his chest rising and falling steadily. Some of the anger burning inside him had eased, but it had not disappeared.
His gaze slowly shifted toward the other four men.
The moment they realized he was looking at them, the fear in their eyes became impossible to hide.
One after another, Zachary repeated what he had done to their leader. None of the men escaped his punishment.
The warehouse echoed with cries of pain until all five of them were left bruised and barely able to lift their heads. Blood trickled from split lips and broken noses as they struggled to catch their breath.
When he was finally finished, Zachary let the baseball bat slip from his hand.
It landed on the concrete floor with a dull clang, its surface stained dark with blood.
The room fell silent once again.
