"That’s not what I’m nervous about."
Sienna looked ahead, where the grand three-story mansion stood proudly beneath the evening sky.
"I’m nervous because of my son, I mean our son—"
Her fingers unconsciously tightened around his hand.
"This is the first time I’ll see him again after knowing from you that Skylar is from my seed and womb. That he is the son I never knew was mine...until now."
Zachary understood immediately.
He didn’t interrupt or try to reassure her with empty words. Instead, he simply gave her hand another gentle squeeze before guiding the car toward the front entrance.
The vehicle came to a smooth stop.
Before the engine was even turned off, the front door opened.
A small figure stood waiting there with the brightest smile she had ever seen.
Skylar bounced excitedly on his feet, unable to hide how happy he was that they had finally arrived.
Zachary smiled as he looked at Sienna. "Go," he said softly. "Welcome him."
She reached for the door handle but hesitated at the last second. She turned to see Zachary again. "When will we tell him the truth about me?"
Zachary looked at her for a brief moment before answering. "Whenever you’re ready." He smiled reassuringly. "But tonight, let’s simply enjoy our first dinner together as a family."
Sienna nodded. "Okay—"
Before she could finish speaking, her door suddenly swung open from the outside.
Skylar had opened it himself.
"Mommy!" His bright smile lit up his entire face. "Welcome home."
The two simple words completely melted her heart.
Without thinking, Sienna stepped out of the car and immediately wrapped him in a warm embrace. Every emotion she had been struggling to contain spilled into that single hug.
She wanted to lift him into her arms and hold him as tightly as she could, as though she could somehow make up for the years they had lost.
But before she could, Skylar gently stopped her.
"No, Mommy. Don’t lift me up," he said, looking at her injured hand with obvious concern. "Your hand is still hurt."
His worried expression made her laugh softly, tears threatening to return.
She nodded and lowered her arms. "You’re right."
Instead of picking him up, she reached for his small hand.
Skylar happily slipped his fingers into hers.
Skylar’s bright smile faded for a brief moment, and disappointment flickered across his little face. However, he quickly recovered, unwilling to give up so easily. Looking back at Sienna with hopeful eyes, he spoke in a much softer voice.
"Okay... but Mom, you have to come with me to the third floor first. I want to show you my room."
Sienna’s smile grew even warmer.
"Of course," she replied gently. "I’d love to see your bedroom."
The truth was, she wanted to see everything. She wanted to know where her son had spent his childhood, what kind of room he slept in, what toys he loved, and what little memories filled the place. Every small detail felt precious to her because each was part of the life she had missed.
Watching his son effortlessly steal all of his wife’s attention, Zachary could only smile helplessly. There was no real jealousy in his heart. If anything, seeing the two of them growing closer was exactly what he had hoped for. Instead of interrupting them again, he simply accompanied them to the elevator.
As they waited for the elevator doors to open, Zachary stepped a little closer to Sienna and lowered his voice so only she could hear him.
"Take your time with our son," he murmured. "I need to go out and take care of something."
Sienna looked at him, her brows drawing together in confusion. She tilted her head slightly and searched his face, silently asking what he meant.
Zachary met her gaze with a faint smile. Reaching up, he gently cupped her cheek, his touch tender enough to calm her racing thoughts.
"My wife," he said quietly, "you know exactly what I want to do."
The way he said it, along with his deep, cold gaze as he said it, immediately made her understand.
He wasn’t leaving because of work. But he was going after the gangsters who had attacked her.
