The Billionaire's Insignificant Wife novel Chapter 132

Heir to Nothing

Daniel had just finished lunch with an important client when Mr. Harris sent him the message.

He sat in a luxurious restaurant on the fortieth floor of a downtown building with business colleagues. Discussing an expansion contract worth billions.

But Daniel’s mind wasn’t fully focused.

Part of his brain kept drifting to the house. Thinking about Alina and the increasingly complicated situation.

When his phone vibrated on the table, he immediately took it.

Message from Mr. Harris.

Daniel read quickly. His eyes narrowed deeper as he read each word.

Mrs. Helen took photos of evidence of injuries on Alina’s face. And would send them to outside parties.

Daniel felt anger burning in his chest.

He’d already given that woman a warning. Already emphasized it was her last chance after previously being caught helping Alina communicate with Emma.

But the old servant still violated it.

She still chose to defend Alina.

Daniel typed a reply with fingers pressing the screen from anger.

“Detain Mrs. Helen. Don’t let her leave when her work hours end. I’ll come home early to handle this directly.”

Send.

Daniel put down his phone with a hardened jaw.

The client across the table looked at him with slight concern.

“Mr. Blackwood? Is there a problem?”

Daniel forced a professional smile back onto his face.

“No serious problem. Just a small household matter. Let’s continue discussing the contract clauses.”

But Daniel’s mind was no longer in that room.

Already planning what he would do to Mrs. Helen.

To the traitor who dared threaten his family.

Daniel was stunned for a moment.

Then his hand moved again to his phone.

Opened contacts. Searched for a specific name.

Typed a brief message.

“I want to publish news.”

His face was calm. Controlled. He also typed a few sentences, then sent them.

Not long after, a reply message from the person he contacted arrived.

“This is big news. Congratulations to you and Mrs. Blackwood. I will immediately publish this happy news.”

Daniel’s lips curved in a crooked smile reading that message. He put down the phone again and refocused on his work.

But there was something gleaming dangerously in his eyes.

Something that said a big plan was in motion. And nothing could stop it.

Meanwhile, in Rachel Chen’s office, three people sat around a small conference table.

Rachel. Emma. Richard Hayes.

This was their third meeting in the past week.

And each time, they grew more frustrated with the limitations they faced.

Rachel closed the laptop in front of her. Looked at the other two with a tired expression.

“Without direct access to Alina, we can’t do much,” she said honestly. “All we have now are just assumptions and speculation. There’s no concrete evidence that can be used in court.”

“What about the fake pregnancy report from Dr. Ross?” Emma asked in a tense voice. “Can’t that be proven yet?”

Rachel shook her head. “Without a direct statement from Alina, we can’t confirm whether that report is fake or not. Doctors won’t leak patient medical information without permission. That’s a HIPAA violation. And even if we could prove Dr. Ross falsified the report, it would take months for the legal process.”

Richard clenched his hands on the table.

“So we can only sit still and wait?”

“Unfortunately, yes.” Rachel looked at him with sympathy. “Unless Alina herself comes out and makes an official report, or we get concrete evidence of violence, our hands are tied.”

Richard stood. Walked to the window with restless steps.

“I can’t just sit still,” he said in a trembling voice. “My daughter is trapped there. And I’m sure that pregnancy report is fake. Alina’s condition isn’t as good as I saw last time. She must have felt threatened enough to act fine when we met.”

“Uncle is right,” Emma agreed. She looked at Rachel and Richard alternately. “During dinner yesterday, Alina didn’t say anything about pregnancy. There weren’t even any signs. No physical changes. No nausea or other symptoms. She just looked thin and tired.”

Richard nodded in agreement. “I’m also sure it’s fake. Daniel must have falsified the report to trap Alina. But like Rachel said, we have no proof.”

“Yes. Our only hope now is Mrs. Helen. We have to wait for the latest information about Alina from her.”

Emma stared at her phone lying on the table.

“I’ve been trying to contact Mrs. Helen since this morning. She promised to send the latest information about Alina’s condition. But her phone has been inactive for several hours.”

Richard stared at Emma with wide eyes. “Do you think something happened to Alina?”

“I don’t know. But this isn’t normal. Mrs. Helen always answers messages or calls quickly, except in urgent situations.”

Rachel tapped her fingers on the table. Thinking.

“Is it possible her phone was confiscated, or she was caught helping us?”

“It’s possible.” Richard returned to the table. Sat heavily. “Then what? What should we do if Mrs. Helen can no longer help? We’re truly blind now. No eyes inside the house. No way to know what’s happening to Alina.”

All three fell silent.

A sense of anxiety and frustration hung thick in the air.

Emma stared at her phone again. Hoping Mrs. Helen would suddenly send a message.

But the screen remained empty.

“I could just go visit Alina again,” Richard whispered while holding his head with both hands.

The man looked much older than his age.

“But I’m afraid something bad will happen. What if with my arrival Daniel does something more cruel.”

Rachel and Emma were both anxious. But they didn’t know what to say.

There was nothing they could do now except wait.

Wait for an opportunity. Wait for an opening. Wait for Alina herself to ask for help.

Emma opened her mouth to say something comforting. But her phone suddenly vibrated on the table.

Incoming message notification.

Emma picked it up. Read a brief message from an old college friend.

“Emma, I just saw the news. Congratulations for Alina! When’s the due date?”

Emma furrowed her brow. Confused.

What news?

Her phone vibrated again. Another notification.

And again.

And again.

Dozens of notifications came in simultaneously.

W******p messages. I*******m. Email.

All asking the same thing.

About Alina. About pregnancy.

“What’s happening?” Rachel asked seeing Emma’s confused expression.

Emma opened one of the messages. Link to an online news article.

She clicked.

And her phone screen displayed the latest news from a famous gossip media outlet.

Big headline. Photo of Daniel and Alina at a social event several months ago.

Richard and Rachel approached. Read over Emma’s shoulder.

All three froze seeing the news headline.

“BREAKING: MRS. ALINA BLACKWOOD PREGNANT WITH FIRST HEIR TO BLACKWOOD ENTERPRISES”

Emma stared at her phone screen with wide, unblinking eyes.

She couldn’t blink. Couldn’t breathe.

Rachel and Richard were reading the same article over her shoulder.

All three of them had gone completely still in a silence that felt suffocating.

Emma scrolled through the article with a trembling hand.

There was a photo of Daniel leaving an upscale restaurant in the city center, surrounded by reporters pressing microphones and cameras toward him.

A direct quote from Daniel was printed in bold.

“Yes, that’s correct. My wife is pregnant. We are overjoyed by this news. It is a tremendous blessing for our family.

A photo of Daniel smiling faintly. Looking proud. Looking happy.

Like a husband who was genuinely delighted that his wife was carrying his child.

Emma felt nausea rise in her throat.

“That’s impossible,” she whispered. “This can’t be happening.”

But the evidence was right in front of her. The story had already spread. Major outlets had picked it up. And Daniel himself had confirmed it.

Richard took the phone from Emma’s hand. He read through the article carefully.

“This doesn’t make sense,” he said, his voice tight.

“But Daniel confirmed it directly to the press,” Rachel said quietly. “He gave an official statement. This isn’t just a rumor anymore.”

Emma shook her head firmly. “No. This is part of Daniel’s plan. He fabricated a pregnancy report and now he’s making it public so Alina can’t run. So everyone believes she’s pregnant.”

“But why would Daniel take a risk this enormous?” Rachel looked at Emma. “If it comes out later that Alina isn’t pregnant, his reputation is finished. He must have something. Either Alina really is pregnant, or Daniel has found a way to make it appear that she is.”

Richard set the phone down with a shaking hand.

“We need to go to that house. Now. I have to see Alina in person.”

“Daniel has certainly already ordered security not to let us in,” Emma said with frustration.

“Especially now that the pregnancy news is out. He’ll be keeping Alina under tighter watch. And he’ll have plenty of reasons ready to keep us from reaching her.”

Rachel nodded. “We should hold back for now rather than end up making things worse.”

Richard clenched his fist until his knuckles turned white. He wanted to refuse, but he had no real options. Especially if Alina really was pregnant – the last thing he wanted was to put her in danger.

“Then I’ll confront Daniel directly. I’ll meet him face to face,” Richard decided.

Emma and Rachel both hesitated at that. But they had no better alternative.

Emma could only watch him with an anxious expression. “Please be careful.”

“Of course,” Richard answered. He pulled out his phone and called Daniel’s assistant to arrange a meeting with his son-in-law.

At the Blackwood mansion, Clarissa had just returned from picking Junior up from school.

They were still in the car in the front courtyard.

Junior unclipped his seatbelt cheerfully. *”Mom, can I go play in the back garden for a bit?”*

But Clarissa did not answer.

She was staring at her phone with eyes that looked about to fall out of her head.

Notifications kept flooding in. Dozens. Hundreds.

Messages from friends. From acquaintances. From distant family members.

All about the same thing.

Alina was pregnant.

Clarissa opened one of the news links with trembling fingers.

She read the large headline.

Saw the photo of Daniel smiling as he made the announcement.

“My wife is pregnant.”

The words hit her like a fist to the face.

Clarissa felt blood rush to her head. Her ears rang. Her vision swam.

Alina. Pregnant. With Daniel’s child.

No. NO.

This could not happen.

“Mom?”

Junior’s voice cut through the fury building inside her.

She turned. Saw her son staring at her with worried eyes.

“Mom, what’s wrong? Are you sick?”

Clarissa rearranged her expression instantly. She forced a smile onto a face that had gone rigid.

“Nothing, sweetheart. Mom’s fine. Just a little dizzy. Let’s go inside.”

They got out of the car.

Junior ran ahead to the front door, where a housekeeper was already there to open it.

Clarissa walked more slowly. Her phone still clenched tight in her hand.
