The room was heavy with silence, the kind that presses against your chest and makes every breath feel calculated.
Maya sat on the armchair in front of her, fingers trembling slightly, mind racing to reconcile the calm, protective Damien she knew with the ruthless force that had dismantled Beckett.
Damien stayed near the window, back to her, staring out at the horizon. The tension in his shoulders hadn’t eased-if anything, it had coiled tighter, like a spring ready to snap.
