"You're his fiancée?"
Tiffany's face drained of color.
She eyed Yolanda up and down, taking in her imposing, muscular build, and a surge of arrogant confidence returned to her.
"Looking like that, I don't care if you're his fiancée."
"Reggie would never be into someone like you."
"He loves me."
Tiffany was remarkably self-assured.
"Yolanda, what's going on out there? Let her in!" the General's voice called from the bed.
Yolanda had intended to handle the situation herself, but Tiffany's desperation to see the old man was glaringly obvious.
Before Yolanda could even step aside, the nurse shoved her way through the doorway.
Yolanda followed her in, and Noah quickly grabbed Claire's arm, pulling her along.
He was terrified the shock would send his great-grandfather into cardiac arrest.
At least with Claire there, she could jump in and resuscitate him.
"General Darwin, I'm Reggie's girlfriend, my name is—"
"I don't care what your name is." Despite his profound weakness, the General's commanding presence easily overpowered the frantic nurse.
"If you're his girlfriend, then go find him."
"I may be his grandfather, but we are completely estranged. I have no idea where he is."
Tiffany was stunned, never expecting the old man to brush her off so coldly. "But I'm pregnant with your grandson!"
The General scoffed. "My great-grandson is already sixteen. I'm not desperate for more heirs."
"Besides, every generation makes its own bed."
Tiffany was completely out of her depth.
"Then what am I supposed to do with the baby?"
"It's your child. Do whatever you want with it."
The General was utterly ruthless.
Tiffany finally realized she had miscalculated.
This was not how the script was supposed to go.
No one had warned her the Darwin family would react with such freezing indifference.
Yolanda stood to the side, studying her thoughtfully.
"You aren't seriously trying to use that baby as a golden ticket into the Darwin family, are you?"
That wouldn't even cover two months of her salary.
She was losing her actual career over this mess.
Ten thousand was completely unacceptable.
"You do have a second option."
Yolanda knew exactly how greedy this girl was.
"What option?" Tiffany asked immediately.
"You deliver the baby, hand it over to the Darwins, and you disappear completely."
"I'll give you this much."
Yolanda named her price.
"A hundred thousand dollars."
"No, that's way too low. The physical toll of pregnancy is huge."
"Besides, I'm the baby's mother. I couldn't just give my child away..."
Tiffany immediately started negotiating.
"Yolanda!" General Darwin snapped, having absolutely no idea what she was playing at.
