"I've decided to start attending specialized traditional medicine lectures next semester."
Ethan was clearly a man of action.
Knowing she couldn't talk him out of it, Claire didn't even try.
Instead, she pulled out a notebook and quickly jotted down a list of introductory books.
"Buy these and skim through them first."
Once he saw the sheer volume of reading material, he would probably back down.
Ethan genuinely hadn't expected the beginner's reading list to be this extensive.
"Shouldn't the introduction just be one book? Like a basic medical compendium?"
Ethan voiced his thoughts exactly as they came.
Claire, of course, shut that down immediately. "General Theory of Traditional Medicine and The Inner Canon are just the absolute basics."
"I only picked out a few for you and left out the rest, so you should be grateful."
With Claire putting it that way, Ethan had no choice but to go book shopping.
He briefly wondered if she was just messing with him, but on second thought, that didn't make sense.
It wasn't like they had any bad blood between them.
"If I don't understand something, can I ask you for help?" Ethan asked right before they parted ways.
Claire looked at him flatly. "I'd prefer you didn't."
Ethan froze. "Why?"
"If you can't even figure out the introductory material, why waste the time?"
"You can just focus on mastering clinical practice, and your career will still be incredible."
Claire's blunt logic left Ethan stunned.
Damn it, she actually made perfect sense.
If he couldn't even grasp the basics, then it really didn't matter if he studied it or not, right?
Still, Ethan genuinely wanted to understand the field.
He might not be on Claire's level, but he wouldn't be completely hopeless, right?
