Although Sloane had briefly considered asking the police for help, she never expected the advice to come from Claire.
Claire hadn't forgiven her, but she wasn't holding a grudge either.
After days of experiencing the cold shoulder from everyone, Sloane had been ready to give up.
But Claire had unknowingly sparked a light in her eyes.
Claire, on the other hand, had no idea that throwing out a casual piece of advice would result in Sloane clinging to her.
For the next few days, Claire constantly bumped into Sloane—in the cafeteria, at off-campus restaurants, in the lecture halls, and even by the track.
Right now, Claire sat in a milk tea shop just off campus, staring at Sloane sitting directly across from her.
"Can I help you with something?"
Lately, she felt like she was being trailed by a persistent mosquito.
Sloane blinked innocently. "Your idea worked perfectly. The gossip has died down a lot."
Sloane had gone to the police station and cried her eyes out. The officers realized they had caused her unnecessary trouble and agreed to contact the university to clear her name.
While a few skeptics remained, things were drastically better.
At least her old friends had started talking to her again.
But Sloane found herself entirely unenthusiastic about her old social circle.
They somehow felt less genuine than Claire.
"Glad it worked out. If there's nothing else, I'm heading out."
Claire stood up.
She had just sneaked out for a quick cake and milk tea because she was hungry. How on earth did Sloane find her?
Did the girl have a radar installed on her?
"Are you going back to campus? I'll walk with you!"
Sloane jumped up.
Claire frowned. "I'm not going to campus. I'm going home."
