The Billionaire's True Heiress From Fake Jewel to Real Crown novel Chapter 686

Claire had no idea Lance had been in a car accident, and Mary hadn't mentioned it either.

After getting home, she washed up and went to bed.

When she received a call from Mary in the middle of the night, Claire's first reaction was that something had happened to the older woman.

"Grandma, what's wrong?"

Claire's groggy, sleep-filled voice was laced with worry.

Mary heard the concern and felt her fondness for the girl grow. "Don't worry, Claire, I'm fine."

"Hmm?" Realizing Mary was okay, Claire relaxed, leaning against the headboard and clicking on a small lamp.

At this hour, Mary wouldn't be calling for no reason.

"If you're alright, then who's in trouble?"

"It's Lance." Mary didn't hide anything, explaining about the accident and the possibility that she might need Claire's help in the operating room.

"I trained you myself, and you've also studied under Hale. No one is more suited for this than you."

"I'm getting older, and my stamina isn't what it used to be."

"If anything goes wrong during this surgery, I believe no one can step in and fix it better than you."

"Claire, I know you and the James family have had a falling out. I shouldn't be asking you to step in, just in case something goes wrong and Latham and Octavia use it against you."

"But please forgive me. I have my own selfish reasons."

"Lance is still my biological grandson, and I don't want him spending the rest of his life disabled."

Claire understood immediately and quickly interrupted. "Grandma, you don't need to say all that."

"As long as Latham and Octavia don't object, I have no problem assisting you in the operating room."

"It's just that they have a deep prejudice against me. They might not agree."

"I'm also worried about you getting caught in the middle."

Claire had hit the nail on the head.

Mary thought her granddaughter was incredibly smart, grasping the core issue almost instantly.

"They probably don't believe I have what it takes, do they?"

Youth certainly had its advantages; while everyone else looked drained, she was still brimming with energy.

When Latham and Octavia saw Claire, neither said a word. At this point, they weren't sure whether to question her abilities or beg her to save Lance.

Only Cindy looked like she wanted to speak but hesitated.

She was a bit worried that Claire might hold a grudge and refuse to give her all during Lance's surgery.

It had to be said, Cindy was overthinking things.

"Claire!" Cindy called out, prompting Claire to look back.

"I hope you can let go of the past..."

Cindy finally managed to get the words out.

But Claire just raised a hand, cutting her off. "I'm only here for the consultation. It's not your place to speak right now."

"Whether or not I enter the operating room isn't up to any one person."

"The entire surgery will be recorded on camera, so you don't have to worry about me trying to sabotage Lance."
