"That won't be necessary. Let Norris and Phil get some rest. I can drive Karla myself."
Claire wasn't particularly worried; even if someone had sinister motives, it depended entirely on whether she'd tolerate it.
Her car was heavily modified—virtually no one on the road could keep up with her.
Safety during the drive was the least of her concerns.
Once they reached the hospital, she was confident that even if someone was tailing them, they wouldn't dare make a reckless move.
Besides, they were visiting a famous actress; the hospital was bound to be a madhouse right now.
"I'll go with you," Dane offered suddenly.
Why was he trying to get involved in this mess?
Claire shot him a look of mild confusion.
Dane smoothly explained, "I need to do a site visit for that Westside project you mentioned anyway. I might as well head back to the city with you guys."
Oh, right. Since he actually had business to attend to, she couldn't exactly forbid him from returning to town.
So, Dane took the wheel, Claire claimed the passenger seat, and Karla simply closed her eyes to rest in the back.
No one bothered her as she drifted off.
Dane was a remarkably smooth driver, unlike Claire, who treated the highway like a racetrack.
She managed to keep up a casual conversation with him at first, but eventually gave in to exhaustion and fell fast asleep.
Dane had no intention of waking the sleeping girl.
Because of that, she didn't open her eyes again until they were pulling up to the hospital.
The hospital was anything but quiet in the middle of the night; the corridors were packed with people.
The news of Sienna's hospitalization hadn't been kept under wraps. Within hours, the lobby was crawling with reporters.
If Karla walked through the front doors right now, she'd absolutely be ambushed by cameras.
Fortunately, Claire knew the facility's hidden routes.
"Karla, follow me. I know a shortcut upstairs."
Most people avoided this particular path because it led straight past the morgue.
Claire conveniently left that detail out, not wanting to freak her out.
