Yolande was beautiful, but she and Claire were completely different types.
Irma assumed Yolande must have liked Dane too. At the very least, she was a member of the Churchill family. Why wasn't she fighting for him?
She was totally gutless!
For a marriage alliance between the Churchills and the Greens, Yolande should have had the best chance.
Yet here she was, letting a country bumpkin pop out of nowhere to steal her potential fiancé, and still bringing the girl into their social circle without holding a grudge.
What kind of pushover was she?
"Unfair to me how?" Yolande thought Irma was being completely ridiculous.
In the past, whenever they were both at the Churchill estate, Irma always had to compete with her, needing to prove she was better at everything.
Since Irma was Octavia's niece, Yolande usually just took the high road and didn't stoop to her level.
But now that Irma was targeting Claire, Yolande had no intention of backing down.
"You obviously met Dane first. If it weren't for Claire, you might have been the one engaged to him."
Yolande wanted to sew Irma's mouth shut. How could she spew such nonsense?
It wasn't that Yolande felt guilty, but Irma's thought process was unnervingly similar to her own mother's, Tiffany.
She was terrified Octavia and the others would overhear and mistakenly believe Yolande harbored those same delusions.
"What are you talking about? Dane is Claire's fiancé, what does that have to do with me?"
"I don't even like him!"
Yolande genuinely had no feelings for Dane.
He was cold, aloof, and utterly unapproachable.
She hadn't seen him often, mostly just crossing paths at various banquets.
Dane had never given her special treatment just because she was a Churchill.
Yolande wasn't foolish enough to think an unattainable man like him would ever fall for her.
Irma wasn't stupid; she certainly wouldn't gossip publicly.
However, if she could quietly drag Claire's name through the mud and ruin the marriage alliance, she was more than willing to do so.
"Seriously? Claire is so much younger than him. Isn't that robbing the cradle?" Quinn asked in shock.
Irma hadn't expected Quinn to say that.
Shouldn't it be the country bumpkin taking advantage of him?
Dane was only a few years older than Claire, but to any other woman, he was an incredibly young, wealthy, and accomplished catch.
"It's exactly because Claire is still young that nothing is set in stone. If she ends up falling for someone else in college, she still has the freedom to choose."
Yolande explained.
Quinn understood. That made perfect sense, and keeping it under wraps was a smart move.
However, this Irma character didn't seem like the type who could keep a secret.
