Regina instantly understood. “Yeah, go wash off that bad luck. Your taste has been absolutely terrible lately.”
Larkin chuckled. “You can say that again!”
“You go ahead and chat with Ophelia and Claire. I won't get in your way.”
Watching Larkin walk away, Ophelia shot Regina a helpless look. “Do you really not care at all that he's messing around behind your back?”
Ophelia's expression was incredibly complicated.
Everyone knew exactly what kind of man Larkin was out in the real world.
But since his wife, Regina, didn't seem to mind, it wasn't anyone else's place to step in and try to help her.
“Wade is just having a little snack on the side. He hasn't made any massive mistakes, and he knows better than to mess with people he shouldn't.”
“Most of the girls clinging to him are just after his money anyway.”
“The romantic love between us died a long time ago. Now, we're more like close allies in a war.”
“Besides, I hold the vast majority of his wealth, and the company shares go to me and the kids. Why should I be so strict with him?”
“And besides, he's not the only one having fun out there. I have my own share of entertainment, too.”
Regina grew increasingly animated as she spoke. It was a shame Ophelia and her husband had such a solid relationship, otherwise Regina would have encouraged her to go out and have some fun of her own.
Then again, Ophelia's husband was already exceptional. It made perfect sense that she wouldn't want to go scavenging for wild scraps when she had a gourmet meal at home.
Unlike her Wade, whose looks had deteriorated so horribly over the years that she couldn't even stomach the thought of being intimate with him.
The main issue was that during the years they were building their business, both of them had overworked themselves to the point of ruining their health.
She had gotten off easy—she had merely gained weight. But Wade was a different story.
All that excessive drinking had severely impacted his performance in certain areas.
Wade had long since lost his edge in the bedroom.
When he went out and paid for other women, even if they were left unsatisfied, they would still shower him with praises to stroke his pathetic ego.
But with her, it was a completely different story.
She simply couldn't bring herself to lie through her teeth like that!
Ophelia picked up on exactly what her cousin was implying.
That Jocelyn Hunter really was nothing but trouble.
He decided he would throw a new acting gig her way in a few days and finally cut ties with her.
“Let me help you up. Are you a guest at Padgett's birthday banquet tonight?”
Wade took a closer look at the beauty. She was wearing a green tulle dress, her luminous skin and tear-filled eyes making her look incredibly fragile and pitiful from the pain in her foot.
In that instant, a certain chord was struck in Wade's mind.
However, he quickly remembered that this was a Churchill family event, and he didn't dare act recklessly.
If she was a guest of the Churchills, it meant her background was far from simple, or the man who brought her was a heavyweight.
Either way, she wasn't someone Wade could afford to offend.
“Yes, but I'm feeling a bit unwell. I was actually just about to head home.”
The beauty lowered her gaze, her curled eyelashes seeming to flutter right against Wade's heartstrings.
Oh man, she was stunning. It wasn't just that her features were flawless; it was that delicate, vulnerable energy she exuded that completely hooked him.
