Claire went silent for a moment. “Professor, I'm an incoming freshman.”
Now it was Professor Yates's turn to be utterly shocked. “You're a freshman?!”
How were kids these days so incredibly capable?
A freshman who dared to use a makeshift tool in place of acupuncture needles to treat acute pain in public.
Recalling how perfectly composed she had been while Leo was shouting at her, Professor Yates found it almost unbelievable.
Why couldn't he get students like her?
“Are you the heir to some renowned traditional medical family?” That was the only logical explanation Professor Yates could come up with.
“Not exactly, but I do have a mentor. I've been studying traditional medicine since I was a child.” Claire completely understood Professor Yates's shock.
Hale's medical skills were legendary, bordering on miraculous.
And because Claire was his final apprentice, he had poured his entire heart and soul into teaching her.
In the last few years, when he felt his life drawing to a close, he had taken Claire around to all his old colleagues, letting her intern under them.
She might have looked young, but Claire already possessed a wealth of clinical experience.
“Your mentor must be a truly remarkable person.” Professor Yates didn't know much about traditional medicine.
But Claire carried herself with the poise of a seasoned veteran.
He couldn't help but sigh internally. Why did other people's apprentices turn out so incredibly competent, while his own students were either arrogant braggarts or reckless loudmouths who gave him constant headaches?
“Young lady, I hope we have the chance to chat more in the future.” Professor Yates handed her his business card.
This time, Claire didn't refuse.
“Wait, are you Claire?” Professor Yates suddenly gasped.
He had been hearing that name non-stop lately.
Mainly because the math department was constantly whining about how the medical school had stolen their prodigy.
Cabinda Medical School was, of course, immensely smug about it. The top scorer in the national science exams and a former IMO gold medalist had willingly abandoned her guaranteed spot in the math program just to study medicine.
Didn't that perfectly prove the irresistible allure of The Cabinda University's Medical School?
While Skylar was placing their order, Claire went ahead and bought an extra drink for Professor Yates.
“Have you ever tried the boba from this place, Professor? I hear it's pretty good.”
Professor Yates shook his head. “I'm usually too busy.”
“Then let me treat you. You won't reject the offer, will you?”
Professor Yates chuckled heartily. “Alright then. I'll take this boba straight over to the math department for a stroll.”
“I'll make sure they all know that our star student, Claire, waited in line specifically to buy it for me.”
Claire: “...” *That is incredibly unnecessary.*
Once Professor Yates walked away, Skylar and Zara immediately swarmed Claire.
“Claire, were you seriously not nervous at all talking to a med school professor?”
Even though Skylar was naturally outgoing, facing a university professor was enough to make anyone clam up!
