"With the Chief Instructor looking that good, he has to have a girlfriend, right?"
"If he's single, I think I could totally handle it!"
"I'm not shallow, my one true love is academics! But you need a stable personal life to succeed. With the Chief Instructor as my boyfriend, I could dedicate myself to scientific research even better!"
"..."
Undeniably, Van's charm was lethal.
The students were bantering effortlessly, each comment bolder than the last.
Claire couldn't resist recording a short video clip and sending it to Tilda with a message attached: *Your man has a lot of charm.*
Tilda replied almost instantly, completely unfazed.
Her response was a cheerful text: *I just have great taste!*
She managed to compliment both her man and herself in one breath, leaving Claire thoroughly impressed.
Van looked at the girl who had shouted the question. "I have a fiancée. She is incredibly beautiful!"
Claire suspected that what Van actually wanted to say was 'more beautiful than you,' but he held his tongue to spare the young girl's dignity.
The girl who asked wasn't ugly by any means. She looked great without makeup, and dressed up, she'd definitely be a stunner.
But compared to Tilda, she didn't even come close.
Still, she was smart enough to get into The Cabinda University. She knew when a joke had run its course and that pushing it further would only end badly for her.
So, she quickly dropped it.
There were plenty of other girls interested in the instructor, but upon hearing he had a stunning fiancée, they all went quiet.
The questions that followed were perfectly normal.
Some asked what time lunch was, others asked when they'd get to do shooting practice, and Van patiently answered them all.
He quickly delegated tasks to the other instructors.
They worked in pairs, each duo claiming their assigned class.
Claire's clinical medicine program had two classes, and they were grouped together.
*Zara:* Girls, you don't even know! I brought too much luggage, and the counselor made me downsize. I'm down to only three pairs of shoes, and...
She vented in the chat for a solid minute. Claire skimmed it and got the gist: Ms. Zeller had hauled two huge suitcases and two duffel bags downstairs today.
The counselor had forced her to send half of it back.
She was only allowed to keep one suitcase and one duffel bag.
For some reason, Claire found the whole thing highly amusing.
But Zara hadn't asked Lex for help hauling her rejected luggage back up.
Relying purely on her heiress charm, she had convinced the male classmates in her program to carry her extra bags back to her dorm.
Claire focused on making her own bed, folding her blanket perfectly, and stowing her luggage in her assigned locker.
Checking the time, she saw there were three minutes left.
Only then did she type into the chat: *I told you not to bring that much stuff, but you wouldn't listen.*
*Skylar:* I'm scrambling over here! How many minutes do we have left?!
