No matter how hard Juliana tried, she just couldn’t make sense of it—who would do something like that?
At first, she thought it had to be Mrs. Goad. After their last blowout argument, it seemed possible. But the more she mulled it over, the less it made sense.
The Stranz family wanted children more than anything. She was Scott’s legitimate wife, and if she had a child, that baby would be the rightful heir. Even if her mother-in-law disliked her, surely she’d put those feelings aside for the sake of her grandchild. Who’d ever hurt their own grandchild?
Juliana kept turning it over in her mind. Something just didn’t add up. This whole thing was a knot she couldn’t untangle—if she never found out who caused her miscarriage, she’d never be able to let it go.
Layna, meanwhile, didn’t miss a beat. She lied without flinching. “I have no idea.”
As long as she stuck to that story, no one would ever look her way.
And Juliana? She’d never doubt Layna. Layna was always so sweet to her, so dependent—how could she ever imagine Layna of all people could do such a thing?
“Go on, get your stuff together. I’ll call your uncle.” Juliana had actually been wanting to call Scott anyway, and now she had a reason.
“Mom, I want to watch you call him,” Layna insisted, wanting to make sure everything went her way.
Juliana smiled. “Alright.”
She picked up her phone and called Scott. To her surprise, he answered almost right away. She still wasn’t used to that—he used to ignore her calls.
“Hey, honey,” Juliana said, her voice a little unsteady. “Are you busy?”
Scott was at the office. “Not really. What is it?”
“Layna wants to go to England. What do you think? The education’s better over there, and she could work on her English. Plus, Justin’s already there, so she’d have someone to look after her.”
Scott could hardly be bothered anymore. “It’s up to you.”
“So I can say yes?” Juliana probed, just to be sure.
“Yeah, whatever.” Scott said, “I’ve got a meeting, gotta go.”
“Okay, I won’t keep you.” Juliana kept her tone soft, not daring to push things—she didn’t want to set him off again.
After hanging up, Layna bounced in excitement. “Mom, can I really go? Uncle said yes?”

The readers' comments on the novel: The Bond Between Us (Anastasia and Herman)
How many names does Herman have ? Ian Hank ?...
Author pls Pls don't separate Ana and Herman once again because of Sandy. There must be an ending to Ana's sufferings!...
Yes yes yes!!! Thank you!!!...
How comes the twists are becoming uninteresting and unrealistic? Readers will prefer cleaner straight happy endings. Please don't go far beyond otherwise readers will lose interest. Time to end the story like we want it to be....
Please give us a happy ending for Anastasia and Herman with Pattie recognized as Herman's daughter, thank you!!!...
