The Broken-hearted She And The Icy He (Lily and John) novel Chapter 654

Chapter 654 An Unimportant Past

Her being emotional or angry would at least prove she wasn’t completely indifferent to him.

But this calm–a calm devoid of resentment, complaint, or even nostalgia–was devastating. It was as if she had never sweetly called his name, never promised to be good to him forever.

It was as if… he were just an insignificant stranger passing through her life.

But she cared about me. She liked me so much when we were young. If she didn’t, she wouldn’t have held my hand so tightly in the ruins, encouraging me over and over. She wouldn’t have sung to me until her own voice was hoarse. She wouldn’t have said I was the best, that she would marry me when she grew up!

Even after she was orphaned and sent to the orphanage, she had mentioned him to Jackson many times.

Back then, he was the boy she treasured, the one she waited for. How could she be so completely indifferent to him now?

Then again, he had never treated her well since they met again.

He had lectured her, hurt her, and doubted her for Elsa’s sake. He had even put his hands on her throat and abandoned her in a life–or–death moment. Why should she care about him?

He was the one who had, bit by bit, personally shattered every good memory she had of him.

The pain in his chest was so intense he could barely stand. He had to brace himself against the wall to stay upright.

His voice was a careful, pleading attempt to win her back. “I was wrong… When Elsa came to me with the pendant, I shouldn’t have just believed her without investigating. When she framed you, I shouldn’t have helped her. And even after I knew it was her fault, I shouldn’t have kept defending her… Lizzy, I regret it so much… In the ruins, you said we’d be family for life. Please don’t hate me. Don’t ignore me, okay?”

“Simon, that’s all in the past.”

Lily tried to recall the warmth of the boy in the ruins, but all that came to mind was Simon’s hatred and the pain he had caused her. Since she couldn’t remember, she didn’t force it.

For Zoey’s and Mary’s sakes, she maintained a superficial peace. “As for being family… you’re my husband’s cousin. We’re relatives. So, yes, you are family.”

“Lizzy…”

Simon had desperately wanted her to still see him as family.

He wanted her to care about him, to see him as her one and only family.

That foolish grandson of mine is shameless. They were trapped together when Lily was six. So they had a bond, but that was years ago. Does he really think he can use that to cling to Lily now? What terrible luck she has. When it was time for him to repay her kindness, he was busy helping Elsa bully her. Now that the truth is out, he shows up playing the part of a heartbroken lover. He’s just trying to make us all sick, isn’t he?

The more Zoey looked at him, the more disgusted she was. “Get out of here. Go cool off somewhere. You let a slut play you for a fool. I don’t know how you have the nerve to stand here and spout this nonsense at Lily.”

Simon didn’t move.

He acted as if he hadn’t heard Zoey. He just looked at Lily, his voice even more cautious. “Lizzy, you said you liked dessert best, right? I’ll go buy some for you.”

Grace’s lips tightened. She looked at Simon with open disapproval.

What does a sixyearold really know? This Bale boy is being shameless, trying to use a childhood memory to bother Lily.

Out of respect for Zoey and Nancy, she didn’t call him shameless to his face, but she couldn’t hide her contempt.

“Get out! Now!” Mary had a splitting headache from her son’s behavior.

She pressed her temples and snapped, “No one here wants to see you. Lily is pregnant and needs to be in a good mood. Don’t you dare come back and upset her.”
