The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 103

Nora shot up from her seat.

“I have an idea about the serial rape-murder case.”

The atmosphere instantly fell silent.

No one had expected Nora to have a flash of inspiration at a time like this.

All eyes turned to Nathan. Without a moment’s hesitation, he stood up, called out, “Box this up!” and then grabbed Nora’s hand and turned to leave.

Nora was still holding the large chicken leg but didn’t have time to put it down, quickly keeping pace with Nathan.

“You’ve got to be kidding me… Are you switching careers to become an ace detective?”

Though they were grumbling, the team moved quickly.

Before long, the lights in the conference room were on again.

Nora and Nathan organized the files for the serial rape-murder case. Once everyone had arrived, Nora spoke first. “We’ve been overlooking something this whole time.”

“Because the perpetrator has committed a series of crimes, we’ve classified him as a high-IQ individual with an antisocial personality, and we’ve been trying to find what makes him different from other suspects to identify him.”

“But just now, a thought occurred to me. If we step outside our usual way of thinking, if you were the killer, how would you choose your targets?”

Everyone was taken aback.

“How are we supposed to follow a killer’s train of thought?”

“Yeah, the guy has raped and killed so many people, he’s clearly a psychopath. He’s a lunatic. Isn’t there a saying? Don’t try to understand a madman’s mind.”

They went back and forth, but no one was hitting on the point Nora was looking for.

She frowned, about to interrupt them, when another voice cut in first. “If I were the killer, I would choose targets I’ve seen before.”

As soon as Nathan spoke, the others fell silent.
