The next day, at the police station.
The chief was pleased that the Chloe case had been solved.
He came to the special task force office specifically to praise everyone.
Noticing Nathan seemed distracted, the chief was puzzled. "What's wrong? Are there still some loose ends in this case?"
Nathan shook his head, his gaze habitually falling on Nora's empty desk nearby. "No," he said, his voice subdued.
"Good. You all handled this case quickly and beautifully. It's truly inspiring! Frankly, everyone was a bit worried about whether the serial rape and murder case could be solved, but now we have complete confidence in you."
The chief patted Nathan's shoulder, then remembered something. "By the way, that matter Mr. Adams mentioned has been finalized. You and Dr. Hayes come to my office, and I'll go over it with you."
Nathan's eyes flickered. "Dr. Hayes isn't here."
"Not here?"
The chief glanced over and, sure enough, didn't see Nora.
"Did the forensics department call her back to help with something?"
Nathan's tone was gloomy. "She's on leave."
The chief paused, then laughed. "Well, that's a rare sight. Our workaholic, Dr. Hayes, is actually taking a vacation."
"Looks like the non-stop work finally got to her. Nathan, Dr. Hayes is the treasure of our forensics department. I had to pull a lot of strings to get her on this team. You need to take it easy on her. Plenty of people would be upset if you worked her to the bone."
Just as the chief said this, a young officer walking by couldn't help but mutter, "As if Nathan wouldn't be the most upset one."
"Everyone knows he's the one who worries about her the most."
"Huh??"
The chief's incredulous gaze fell on Nathan. "Wait... Nathan... are you...?"
Nathan kicked the officer's leg and said with a dark expression, "Don't you have anything better to do?"
