The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 121

A wave of nausea washed over Nora. Just as she was debating whether to fight Ben to the death, a gunshot rang out. Ben, who had looked as crazed as a demon just a moment before, collapsed to the ground with a thud.

“Nora!”

That was the only word Nora heard before she was lifted off her feet.

The feeling of weightlessness made her instinctively wrap her arms around her rescuer’s neck.

The movement brought their heads so close they nearly touched. When their eyes locked, the raw, unshielded fear in Nathan’s gaze made her heart skip a beat—she had never seen him this shaken.

She let out a long sigh of relief.

She knew it. She knew Nathan, a detective, would come to save her.

But the look on his face now… Nora paused.

Was Nathan really that worried something would happen to her?

“How did you…”

Before Nora could finish her question, she saw Nathan’s expression turn strange.

Following his gaze, Nora looked down at her own chest.

She then realized that in the scuffle, the bridal gown that had been hastily thrown on her had come open, revealing the vibrant red bodice underneath.

One of the straps on the bodice had even come loose, exposing a large patch of skin to the air, flushed and trembling with every ragged breath.

Nora was speechless.

Nathan cleared his throat, looking away uncomfortably.

Nora silently pulled her gown closed.

After a moment's thought, she added, “I have another layer on under this.”

“Oh,” Nathan replied.

Nora frowned in frustration.

She had meant to say that she hadn't actually been exposed.

But why did her explanation sound so peculiar?

She opened her mouth, but didn’t know what to say.

Whatever. The more she said, the more likely she was to misspeak. Besides, Nathan wasn't the type to pay attention to these things.

From the corner of his eye, Nathan noticed Nora’s features scrunching together, as if she were deeply troubled by something.
