"And who might this gentleman be?"
The lead stylist, who introduced himself as Paul, let his gaze wander appreciatively over Nathan's tall, athletic frame.
Nora could practically feel Paul and his assistant undressing Nathan with their eyes. Recalling the stereotypes about male stylists in the fashion industry, she quickly stepped forward and shoved Nathan out into the hallway.
"I've already booked a professional pest control team for tomorrow. They'll handle it. I don't need your help anymore, so you should really get going!"
Before Nathan could even process what was happening, the door slammed shut in his face. His expression darkened. He stared at the closed door with a complicated look in his eyes before finally turning on his heel and heading to his own apartment.
Inside, Nora quickly brushed off Nathan's presence, claiming he was just a friendly neighbor helping with a bug problem. She immediately steered the conversation toward her wardrobe.
"I don't like overly complicated looks. Keep it as simple and elegant as possible."
Paul exchanged a disappointed glance with his wardrobe assistant. "Ms. Hayes, you have such a stunning natural canvas. A bold, glamorous makeup look would guarantee all eyes are on you tonight."
"I don't need to try a new style," Nora insisted firmly. "Simple and appropriate is all I want."
"If you say so."
Nora assumed her low-maintenance requests would make the fitting a quick affair. To her shock, it still took an exhausting three hours. They finally settled on a pearl-white high-necked silk gown paired with an elegant updo.
The dress was meant to be accessorized with a specific set of pearls, but Paul hadn't brought them for the preliminary fitting. They agreed he would bring the jewelry tomorrow when he returned to do her final makeup and hair for the gala.
Nora personally walked the two stylists to the door and waited until they boarded the elevator. Just as she turned to go back inside, her neighbor's door clicked open. Nathan stepped out, holding a small trash bag.
"They left?" he asked casually.
