The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 251

Nora shot him a look. "You'd probably survive if you kept your mouth shut."

"Then I'll shut up." Nolan looked at her pitifully. Despite trembling with fear, he still found the nerve to comfort her. "Don't worry, Nora. If these guys see how pretty you are and try to do anything, I'll protect you even if it kills me. Remember to kick them where it hurts, as hard as you can. Make sure they can never get it up again."

Nora was speechless. This kid watched way too much television.

But this was no time for idle chatter. Just as Nora debated whether she should find a way to knock Nolan out herself, the doors of The Abandoned Warehouse were kicked open.

The loud crash made it obvious the kidnapper didn't care if they were awake.

Nora made a split-second decision and kept her eyes open, staring straight at the entrance.

Sure enough, the man wasn't surprised in the slightest to see them both conscious.

He wore a hat and a mask, revealing only a pair of murky eyes.

Drawing on her years of forensic and investigative experience, Nora immediately recognized him as a seasoned pro. He had an ironclad psychological defense and held zero fear of the police.

"You're awake," he said. His voice was gravelly, placing him somewhere in his forties.

Nolan couldn't hold back and blurted out, "Who are you? What do you want with us? Is it money?"

The man chuckled darkly. "Just doing a job for cash. Don't get any funny ideas, Mr. Devereaux. Sit tight, and when the time is up, I'll let you go."

Nolan's eyes lit up. "Really?" But he quickly realized something was off and eyed the man suspiciously. "If you're so nice, why kidnap us in the first place?"

The man tossed his freshly bought supplies onto a weathered table. "I told you, I'm just doing a job. Cooperate, and once I get the money, I'll release you. But if you try to play any tricks, don't blame me for getting rough."

"It's not normal. Because the ham in his bag is The Rival Brand Ham. If I remember correctly, that supermarket chain doesn't sell it."

"Huh?" Nolan felt like he couldn't keep up with her train of thought. "You even know what brand of ham a random supermarket sells?"

That was so cool. Was she some kind of superhuman?

Nora ignored the starry-eyed look Nolan was giving her, her mind already jumping to a new possibility.

"We didn't hear a car engine earlier, which means he didn't drive to get those groceries. He most likely lives near this abandoned warehouse, and he just met up with whoever hired him to kidnap us. These supplies must have been dropped off by his employer!"

Nolan stared blankly at her, feeling his brain short-circuiting.
