"Wait... how do you know all of this?"
Nora was about to answer when she saw the kidnapper returning.
Watching him expertly locate various utensils to start cooking, she grew even more certain of her theory. She shot Nolan a pointed look, silently urging him to speak up and bait the man for information.
Instead, Nolan acted like an absolute idiot, staring and practically drooling at the sizzling fried eggs in the kidnapper's pan.
Nora was utterly speechless. Realizing this guy was completely useless, she pinned all her hopes on her phone, which had been tossed onto the workbench.
Without a doubt, the kidnapper had already messed with it.
Thankfully, when Nathan Peyton realized someone was secretly photographing her earlier, he had installed a hidden app on her device. If the phone remained powered off for over an hour, the app would automatically activate and immediately send her GPS coordinates to Nathan's phone.
Nora never expected the app to actually save her life instead of just triggering when she forgot to charge her battery.
A wave of profound gratitude toward Nathan washed over her. It had to be close to an hour by now. Surely he would receive the location soon?
...
"Captain, we've spotted a suspicious vehicle," an officer called out, pointing at the surveillance footage. "Before Dr. Hayes disappeared, this car was parked right outside her apartment complex. Three minutes after she vanished, it drove out of camera range. The footage has obvious cuts in it. They must have deleted the part where she was taken."
"Focus on dashcams from vehicles in that area during that timeframe, and pull the security feeds from all neighboring buildings," Nathan ordered methodically. "There's no way they altered every single camera system in such a short window."
"Yes, sir." The officers scrambled back to work.
Nathan reviewed the footage alongside his team, keeping one eye glued to his phone screen.
