The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 255

The kidnapper clearly found Nolan ridiculous as well.

Still, he followed the request and prepped two cups of instant noodles.

Nolan flashed the kidnapper a grin. "Buddy, add a sausage! Come on, you've got so many. Sparing two won't kill you. Put it on my tab! Ask my dad for double the price, I swear!"

What a devoted son. Terrified his father wouldn't pay enough, he was out here actively finding excuses for the kidnapper to raise the ransom.

Nora's mind began to wander, involuntarily picturing Mr. Devereaux's face when he received a ransom demand down to the exact decimal point. Would he think it was a prank and hang up? If so, Nolan was really shooting himself in the foot.

Riiip.

The kidnapper actually tore open a sausage for him.

Nora watched him intently, noting that he never once touched the Rival Brand Ham. Her eyes flickered with suspicion. Come to think of it, there was definitely something odd about that specific piece of meat...

"Give Nora some too!" Nolan shouted eagerly. "Girls need to eat well! Buddy, give her two!"

Deciding the rich kid was pushing his luck, the man glared at him. "Shut up," he snapped.

Nolan immediately clamped his mouth shut.

But getting a chatterbox to stay quiet was next to impossible. Barely a minute later, he was at it again.

"You gotta watch the cooking time on these noodles. Have you seen that movie? The main character said to steep them for exactly three minutes..."

Irritated by the noise, the kidnapper instinctively reached for the ham beside him to chuck it at Nolan's head. But the moment his fingers brushed the packaging, he froze.

Instead, he grabbed a different sausage and hurled it, the meat smacking the floor right at Nolan's feet.

"I'd suggest you keep your mouth shut, Mr. Devereaux. Or do you want me to make sure you never speak again?"

The kidnapper finally let his true colors show.

She managed one difficult bite and gave up. Listening to Nolan slurping his noodles loudly, she shifted her gaze toward the outside of the warehouse.

"You're not eating?" the kidnapper's voice suddenly broke the silence.

A chill ran down Nora's spine. She instinctively looked up and met his calculating gaze.

"What are you looking at?"

Nora pursed her lips. "I'm just not very hungry."

The man narrowed his eyes, studying her for a long moment.

"Don't try anything clever," he said, flashing a wicked sneer. "Or I can't guarantee what I might do."

Having practically inhaled his own noodles, Nolan sensed the mounting tension between them and timidly chimed in. "Um... I'm still hungry. Nora, if you're not eating, can I have yours?"
