Nora nodded. "That's good."
"So the Devereaux Group is in the clear?"
"Yeah."
Nathan continued, "Honestly, they were never really in any actual danger."
"The initial wave of public outrage was intense, but once the company's PR team and the police released a joint statement clearing their name, the toxic rumors disappeared on their own."
"Besides, the kidnapping made major headlines."
"Anyone with half a brain could see what was really going on."
Nora's expression grew serious.
"Compared to our usual cases, the crime itself was incredibly simple."
"But the web of relationships behind it is a massive mess."
Nathan met her gaze, his eyes dark with meaning. "Exactly."
"For Rosalind to get ahold of Nolan's DNA, someone in his inner circle had to betray him. There's no way she could have gotten her hands on that otherwise."
"When you two were kidnapped, the mastermind demanded the kidnapper stall for time, which was an obvious attempt to weaponize public opinion against the Devereaux Group."
"Which means there's a mole inside the company, too."
"But that falls outside the scope of our investigation. The kidnapper has been handed over to the Prosecutor's Office, so we don't need to follow up on the rest."
Nora nodded. "I hope Mr. Devereaux stays on high alert and catches the traitors inside his family and his company soon."
Otherwise, a disaster like the gala could easily happen again.
"Don't worry. The older the ginger, the spicier the bite. From what I hear, Mr. Devereaux has already made his move."
"We should hear something in a few days."
Nora wasn't surprised that he had this kind of insider information.
Given Nathan's background, having connections in the business world was entirely expected.
She trusted his judgment and was ready to just sit back and watch the drama unfold.
Three days later, on the day Nora was finally cleared for discharge, she got a call from Nolan.
"Nora..."
His voice trembled, as if he had just been struck by a devastating blow.
