The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 277

Nora wanted to say, *Wow, aren't you being honest.*

He couldn't even hide how much it pained him to admit it.

But knowing Nathan held grudges, she figured if she teased him about being jealous, she would probably be the one suffering the consequences later.

So she offered a dry smile. "Is that so? Good for him."

Nathan eyed her. "What's good about it?"

Nora frowned.

He always asked these impossible questions.

She opened her mouth to speak, but the words died in her throat. Finally, throwing her hands up, she muttered, "Are you even actually into me, Nathan?"

Was this guy just messing with her?

After all, he had a track record of being deceptive!

"Why would you ask that?" Even in the face of her doubt, Nathan didn't get angry. Instead, he asked for her reasoning with endless patience.

Nora picked at the hem of her shirt, feeling a mix of embarrassment and genuine frustration. "If you actually like someone, why are you always asking these weird trap questions?"

Wasn't this just putting her in a tough spot on purpose?

Or did Nathan have some weird kink where he loved watching her squirm?

No wonder he refused to tell her the truth for so long!

"..."

Seeing the dawn of realization on Nora's face, Nathan let out a helpless laugh and pulled her into his arms.

"What on earth is going through your head?"

He was simply feeling insecure and wanted to test the waters of her affection.

How did it suddenly turn into a massive accusation against his character?

For God's sake, did she have any idea how long he had waited just to be with her?

Now that they were finally getting their happily ever after, he obviously didn't want another man waltzing into the precinct to fight for her attention!

He never expected Nora to view his jealousy as some sinister plot.

Letting out a heavy sigh, Nathan pressed his forehead against Nora's neck, nuzzling her affectionately.

Nora froze, her entire body going rigid.

She couldn't reconcile this overly affectionate, clingy golden retriever with the cold, unapproachable Captain she had known for so long.

Nathan smoothly caught her hand and pulled her flush against his chest.

Gone was the fragile, clingy man who seemed ready to shatter a second ago.

The aloof, intimidating Captain Peyton was back online.

"Here to help Nora check out?"

The task force stared at their wildly inappropriate, intimate posture, their eyes practically bulging out of their skulls.

"Uh... yeah, yes sir..."

"Excellent. I appreciate the help."

"There's quite a bit of luggage. If you wouldn't mind carrying it to the car."

"To celebrate Nora's recovery, lunch is on me."

The group exchanged bewildered glances, but having worked under him for so long, their bodies reacted out of sheer ingrained obedience.

So they fell into line—some grabbing bags, others picking up fruit baskets.

These were all the get-well gifts people had brought over the past week.
