Now they had to haul it all back.
Nora had been stressing about how to carry everything down, never expecting the problem to solve itself so perfectly.
As the team filed out of the room, someone suddenly remembered what they had just witnessed. Shooting a gossipy glance at Nora and Nathan, they couldn't help but ask, "Captain, what exactly is going on between you and our Dr. Hayes?"
Supporting Nora's weight, Nathan looked at the officer with a smile as warm as a spring breeze.
Whether it was Nora's imagination or not, it felt like Nathan had been waiting an eternity for someone to ask that exact question. The sheer smugness radiating from his eyes was practically overflowing.
"Did I forget to mention it?"
Nathan smiled perfectly. "We're getting married very soon. Things have been too chaotic lately, so I forgot to hand out the invitations. I'll make sure everyone gets one soon. The wedding is early next month, and you are all expected to be there."
The entire squad froze before erupting into a massive uproar.
"Holy shit, no way! You two are tying the knot?!"
"Since when?! How did we not hear a single peep about this?"
"Captain, Nora, that's just cruel! You guys acted like you barely knew each other, I thought you were practically strangers! And now you're telling us you're getting married?!"
Amid the chaotic celebrations, someone blurted out without thinking, "Wait, didn't Dr. Hayes just break up with her boyfriend? How is she already marrying the Captain?"
The moment the words left his mouth, a dead silence fell over the room.
The guy standing closest to him elbowed him hard in the ribs. "Shut your damn mouth! Why would you bring that up? That guy was a cheating jerk anyway. He doesn't even compare to a single hair on the Captain's head!"
The officer realized his blunder and looked at them apologetically, shrinking back. "Captain, Nora, please don't take it the wrong way. I didn't mean anything bad by it. I just have no filter. Please don't be mad."
