If Mia hadn't lost her mind and seduced Aaron, causing Nora to be betrayed by her boyfriend of seven years, why would Nora have settled down with a random cop?
Then he wouldn't have panicked, making one wrong move after another until he irreparably destroyed his relationship with her.
He knew Nora's temperament. She was icy on the outside, but she actually valued emotional ties deeply.
If it weren't for this whole mess, he might have been able to coax her back into the family!
If he had known she was this resourceful, he would have let her marry whoever the hell she wanted!
Leonard was practically furious enough to explode. If it weren't for his public image, he would have thrown a massive tantrum right then and there!
"Dad, how is this my fault?"
Mia felt incredibly wronged. "How was I supposed to know she had such powerful connections? She only met him recently! She was never this tough before. Otherwise, she wouldn't have taken Aaron and me cheating on her without putting up a fight."
It was the harsh truth.
Nora had only met Mr. Devereaux during the Rosalind Lowe case. Before that, she was just an ordinary medical examiner at the station.
"Doesn't that just prove how lucky she is?"
"Weren't you at the villa that day too? Why did he only get close to her and not you?"
Mia looked down awkwardly.
After Rosalind fell from the building, they had all been detained. Just giving their statements and proving their innocence had taken forever.
Once it was over, she had only wanted to rush home and wash the stench of death off herself.
Aaron lowered his eyes, hiding the deep resentment and unwillingness burning within.
Leonard's arrangement sounded like a generous opportunity, but it was actually a trap.
As the prospective son-in-law of the Hayes family, the perks and benefits he could have enjoyed would have been endless.
Now that Leonard was barring him from Mia, trying to climb from an ordinary doctor to the position of hospital director entirely on his own would be harder than scaling a mountain barehanded.
Yet Leonard had deliberately shoved him into a hospital under the family's control.
This meant he was completely under the man's thumb. If he didn't agree to the terms, Leonard could crush his career with a snap of his fingers, making him unemployable anywhere.
Swallowing his surging fury, Aaron replied with feigned humility. "Yes. Thank you for the opportunity, Mr. Hayes. I admit I lost my mind and made a terrible mistake in my personal life, but I have learned my lesson. I will work hard for the company from now on, and I won't disappoint you."
