But he knew deep down that from the moment he chose to sleep with Mia, he had passed the point of no return.
It was painfully obvious that Nora was lost to him forever. Now, he had to cling desperately to Mia as his only lifeline.
Otherwise, he would lose everything and become the ultimate laughingstock.
"I'm sorry."
"I shouldn't have spoken to you that way, Mr. Peyton. Please accept my sincerest apologies."
Nathan raised an eyebrow, watching the two grown men acting as docile as beaten puppies in front of Nora. His gaze shifted back to her, a teasing glint in his eyes.
"Are you standing up for me?"
The fierce aura Nora had shown Leonard and Aaron vanished instantly.
She scratched the back of her hand awkwardly. "I guess so... But isn't a simple apology letting them off too easy? How about I—"
"Nora!"
Leonard hissed a warning, "Don't push your luck!"
Nora completely ignored him.
Her focus was entirely on Nathan.
It looked as if the second he said the word, she would force the two men to drop to their knees.
Nathan's fingers twitched as he ruthlessly suppressed the urge to pinch her cheek right there in front of everyone.
Clearing his throat politely, he said, "This is enough."
She knew he wasn't the type to lie. If he said it was enough, it was.
She breathed a silent sigh of relief.
It wasn't that she had any reservations about tormenting Leonard and Aaron.
It was simply that taking things any further wasn't in her nature.
Moreover, while she didn't care about Aaron's retaliation, she couldn't ignore Leonard's.
