The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 345

"What were you doing on the day Evelyn died?"

Inside the first interrogation room, Evelyn's parents were on the hot seat. The middle-aged couple looked deeply resentful of being dragged back to talk about their deceased daughter. Their faces were twisted in annoyance.

"Why are you asking us this again? Officer, we've already told you everything!" Mr. Tate barked.

"We barely saw our daughter after she moved out. We honestly have no idea what she was up to," Mrs. Tate added dismissively.

The detective kept his face blank. "But Liam Jennings stated that you knew she was mentally unwell and that you were actively helping with her treatment. Were you two families not close?"

"That was in the past! Once she started dating Liam, she basically cut us off. Naturally, we assumed Liam was manipulating her into abandoning her own parents. We despised him, and it's perfectly normal that we drifted apart from his family!" Mrs. Tate snapped.

"Then why didn't you intervene and stop her from seeing him?"

"How were we supposed to stop her? Every time we brought it up, she threw a massive tantrum and started smashing things in the house!" Mr. Tate yelled. "That ungrateful brat turned her back on her own flesh and blood. Did you expect us, her parents, to beg for her attention?"

Outside the glass, Nora flipped open the file containing the couple's previous statements.

In their earlier interviews, they had detailed exactly how Evelyn had alienated them. They claimed she was incredibly vain, always promising to buy them a mansion and a luxury lifestyle.
