The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 349

"The missing murder weapon," Nathan said smoothly. "There was no weapon left at the scene."

Liam frowned. "Couldn't the killer have just taken it with them?"

"If the killer was worried about leaving fingerprints, simply wiping the weapon down or wrapping their hands in clothing would have perfectly solved that problem," Nathan countered. "The scene was a bloodbath—a classic crime of passion. In that sheer state of panic, why would the killer deliberately carry the weapon away?"

It was a glaring contradiction. A fatal flaw in his perfect crime.

When a killer bludgeons someone to death in a fit of rage, their immediate psychological response is shock, terror, and the desperate urge to flee. The absolute last thing on a panicked murderer's mind is casually packing up the bloody blunt object.

Fleeing through a residential neighborhood while clutching a blood-soaked weapon would only draw massive attention.

"Well... maybe the killer just took it out of habit?" Liam attempted a weak defense. "Maybe they hit her and didn't even know if she was dead or alive, so they just bolted and forgot they were still holding it..."

His voice trailed off, the lie tasting like ash in his mouth.

Nathan stared him down, his lips curving into a cold, mocking smirk. "Figured it out yet?"

"Yeah..." Liam slumped forward, thoroughly defeated. "If that were true, a killer running through the streets with a bloody weapon would have been caught instantly."

A true crime of passion never involved a mastermind trying to manipulate the forensic narrative.

"Now, let's talk about you and Evelyn."

Liam let out a long, heavy sigh. "There really isn't much to say..."

Where was he supposed to start?

As he combed through his memories, he realized that every beautiful moment he thought they shared was now completely painted in blood. He didn't even know how to articulate the madness.

Finally, his voice dropped to a hoarse whisper.

"My brother Joel and I were the only boys in the family."

Growing up, his parents constantly bragged that having two sons was a massive blessing. They were supposed to look out for each other, to ensure they would never face the world alone.
