Nora's face burned at Valerie's total lack of a filter.
"What do you mean R-rated? That's so vulgar."
Valerie scoffed.
"You think that's vulgar? Wait until you hear the real questions."
Nora's jaw dropped. "There are worse questions?"
Valerie nodded excitedly. "Uh, yeah. Like, how loaded is he? Is he packing heat? How's his stamina?"
Nora was speechless.
Good lord.
That was beyond vulgar!
"Let's talk about something else."
It wasn't that Nora didn't want to tell her about his bank account or his stamina... she genuinely had no idea.
Knowing her best friend too well, Valerie narrowed her eyes, studying Nora's flushed face. "Wait. No way. Don't tell me you actually don't know any of that yet?"
Nora blinked, not overly embarrassed that she'd been caught. She nodded. "I don't know."
Valerie grabbed Nora by the shoulders and shook her. "Girl, are you kidding me?! If you don't know any of that, what are you two even doing?"
"We aren't dating."
Valerie looked into Nora's large, painfully honest eyes. Seeing that she was dead serious, Valerie nearly jumped out of her skin. "No way! Nora, you've gone wild! You're making out like that and you aren't even dating?!"
Valerie puckered her lips, mimicking a kissing motion.
"A total prude like you just letting loose... Aaron Wells cheating on you really must have pushed you over the edge."
Where did she even pull that conclusion from?
"I mean, we are getting married soon. We're skipping straight to the paperwork, so it doesn't count as dating."
Valerie froze completely.
"When he told me all of this, I was just as shocked."
"Who wouldn't be shocked?!"
"Peyton Pharmaceuticals is a massive, multi-billion dollar empire!"
"He's the sole heir, and instead of taking over the boardroom, he went to the police academy and spent years dodging bullets on the front lines."
"And he was secretly in love with you this whole time."
"Oh my god, I'm actually going to cry over this romance."
Seeing that Valerie's eyes were genuinely tearing up, Nora sighed, sat up, and handed her a tissue. "Why are you crying?"
Valerie furiously wiped her eyes. "Because I'm so happy for you."
"Aaron was a total piece of trash, but I guess he ended up doing one good thing in his life."
If she hadn't caught that jerk cheating, Nora might never have agreed to Mr. Peyton's marriage proposal.
