"Not yet."
Nathan gently patted her arm. "But don't worry, Grandpa is prioritizing it. He has a private jet on standby. The second the expert clears their schedule, we'll fly them straight here."
Nora was stunned by the massive resources the Peyton family was mobilizing for her. She felt overwhelmed with gratitude and concern. "Isn't that doing too much?"
She had thought borrowing the Peyton family's influence to secure an appointment was already a massive favor.
She never imagined they would deploy a private jet.
"Your mother's health is the priority."
"As soon as we moved her, Grandpa had a specialized medical team run a full diagnostic assessment. I already forwarded the results to the expert. They said her condition hasn't reached the point of no return."
Nora's eyes lit up with hope. "Really?"
Nathan nodded. He pulled out his phone, opened a chat log, and handed it to her.
Seeing the world-renowned specialist's name on the screen, Nora froze. She looked up at Nathan, her chest tight with emotion. "You've been talking to the expert personally?"
Between handling the massive police investigation and his usual duties, he had somehow found the time to consult with international specialists for her mother.
Words completely failed her.
Compared to everything he had done, she felt like a terrible daughter.
"Just exchanging a few messages."
Nathan knew Nora perfectly. He could read the guilt written all over her face. He pulled her closer, his voice soft. "I'm just trying to score points as the future son-in-law. You can't be mad at me for trying to impress her."
Nora knew Nathan wasn't the type of man to seek credit for his actions.
He was only phrasing it that way to make her feel less guilty.
Yet, his selfless support only made her throat tighten more.
She knew she couldn't let herself spiral into guilt.
"When we see her, I'll make sure to sing your praises," Nora promised.
A genuine, brilliant smile broke across Nathan's face. "Deal."
As they walked into the underground garage, they spotted Valerie peering out from the passenger window.
Nora was speechless.
Valerie burst out laughing.
Watching these two interact was like watching teenagers with their first crush.
Hearing the laughter, Nora wanted the floorboards to swallow her whole.
"Oh, stop it."
Having an audience for her romance was mortifying, but beneath the embarrassment, a strange, bubbling joy filled her chest.
Nora couldn't quite put the feeling into words. Handing the lipstick back, she quickly changed the subject to business.
"That lead you gave me last time didn't turn up much else."
Valerie shifted into professional mode.
"Yeah, but I had a few friends dig from a different angle, and we hit the jackpot."
