The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 371

"Leonard Hayes's secretary."

A cold smile touched Valerie's lips. "Her relationship with him isn't exactly professional."

"Maybe he'd tell her his secrets?"

Nora caught her drift and gasped. "Are you saying... Leonard is having another affair?"

Valerie scoffed. "Another is putting it lightly."

She curled her lip in disgust. "Ever since he struck it rich, he's never turned anyone down."

"Maybe he's desperate for a son. It's just a shame none of his mistresses have gotten pregnant. Who knows if it's because of all the terrible things he's done, or if he's just messed around too much at his age."

"If you ask me, it's karma."

Valerie leaned back in her seat. "If he hadn't messed around and just stayed faithful to your mom, you might have had a brother by now."

"Good things come to good people. You and your mom were right to leave when you did."

Nora let out a soft laugh, a hint of mockery in her eyes. "Clearly, Leonard and his side of the family don't see it that way. They just think we were ungrateful for causing a scene instead of enjoying the good life."

Valerie rolled her eyes.

"Let them live in their delusions. Trading eternal damnation for a few decades of wealth... spoken like a true businessman. What a 'bargain'!"

Nora smiled but didn't say anything else.

She shared Valerie's exact sentiments.

Leonard and Mia might have seemed untouchable before, but fortunes could flip in the blink of an eye. The line between building an empire and watching it crumble was razor-thin.

Nora didn't know if she would be the final nail in the Hayes family's coffin.

But she knew one thing for certain: she would never let them off the hook.

She really wanted to strangle these rich people.

"Did you seriously not know this was the Peyton family's place?"

Seeing Nora looking just as stunned beside her, Valerie asked in disbelief.

Nora nodded, her voice sounding a little breathless.

"I knew it was a private residence, but I never had the chance to come out here, so I didn't know who actually lived inside."

This oblivious girl!

Valerie grabbed Nora's arm and shook it frantically. "Nora, you need to pay more attention! First, you didn't even know your own wedding date, and now you don't even know where your husband lives! How can you marry so well and be this clueless!"

Nora laughed helplessly at her friend's dramatic shaking.
