The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 372

She genuinely hadn't cared where the Peytons lived.

After all, their so-called marriage was initially nothing more than a cold transaction.

Why would she bother checking out where her business partner lived, or how many estates he owned?

Plus, with her grueling schedule at the police department, she didn't have the time to care about those things.

"Alright, alright, stop shaking me."

Nora grabbed Valerie's arm. "There's no need to be this excited."

Valerie shot her a look of pure exasperation.

It was a good thing Nora's innocence had miraculously landed her a devoted romantic.

Otherwise, she would have been chewed up and spat out with nothing left.

Valerie had interviewed plenty of wealthy couples in the Arvendale Region who played the part of loving spouses in public, only to mess around behind closed doors in the most chaotic ways imaginable.

"Ugh! You really don't know how lucky you are!"

Today was supposed to be the big day of meeting the family, and Nathan was standing right there. Valerie naturally wasn't going to ruin the mood by bringing up all that dark, cynical gossip to pollute Nora's ears.

Nora squeezed Valerie's hand. Seeing Nathan carrying a mountain of gifts, she stepped forward. "Let me help you with that."

Nathan smoothly sidestepped her. "No need. Someone will take them."

The moment he spoke, several staff members in immaculate uniforms hurried out.

They quickly relieved him of the bags.

An older housekeeper stood by the door, greeting them with a warm smile. "Mr. Nathan Peyton, Ms. Hayes, Ms. Cruz, please come in. Mr. Peyton has been awake since dawn waiting for you. He sent us out to check if you had arrived every ten minutes. Now he can finally relax."

Nora hadn't expected Harold Peyton to be this eager for their visit. A blush crept up her neck.

Valerie tactfully stepped back, letting Nathan lead Nora by the hand.

Stepping into the grand foyer, their eyes immediately landed on Harold Peyton standing by the sofa.

"Yes!"

The older man's eyes crinkled with absolute delight. "Wonderful, wonderful. I've waited so long for this day, and it's finally come true."

Pulling two thick envelopes from his pocket, he handed them to Nora and Valerie.

"A little welcome gift for your first official visit."

It made sense for Nora to get one, but Valerie was stunned to receive one too.

Overwhelmed, she instinctively tried to decline.

"Don't turn it down. I actually have a favor to ask of you. If you don't take it, I won't know how to bring it up."

Not just Valerie, but even Nora was completely caught off guard.

"You have a favor to ask me?"
