The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 380

"Broken?"

Quinn pushed her way through the group, planting herself right next to Michael.

"When did the dashcam break? And how?"

"That's difficult for us to determine."

"When our tech team went to pull the footage, they found that the last recorded file was from five days ago."

Quinn's face darkened instantly.

"Owen, how could you be this incompetent?!"

A man named Owen hurried out from the corner of the room.

Only then did Nora realize he had been there the whole time.

He was wearing a cheap, ill-fitting suit. The sharp creases on his back and thighs showed he spent long hours sitting behind the wheel.

Combining that with Quinn's furious scolding, Nora deduced he was the driver.

Sure enough, Owen stammered that he had checked the vehicle before taking the keys, and the camera had been working perfectly fine.

"I've been driving for years and I've never made a mistake like this! Quinn, you have to believe me, there's no way I wouldn't notice if the camera was off."

Quinn's brow furrowed tightly.

Michael looked equally unhappy.

"Even so, that doesn't prove she wasn't trying to murder him, does it?"

"Michael is here on important business. We've been receiving a flood of death threats, and his obsessive haters harass him constantly."

"Everything was perfectly fine until this sudden crash. It's impossible not to suspect this was a targeted attack."

"Your suspicions are completely valid."

To Nora, it felt like he was merely going through the motions of an assignment, trying to wrap it up as quickly as possible.

"But there's one thing you need to understand."

Before Nora could connect the dots, Nathan fired back smoothly. "To press charges for attempted murder, you need to establish a clear motive."

"Which means you have to prove that Ms. Ziegler harbors genuine malice toward Mr. Devereaux, and that she deliberately orchestrated this crash to kill him."

"We can easily prove that!"

Quinn shot back. "She's a psycho hater! Captain Peyton, maybe you don't understand how internet trolls operate, but they don't need a reason to hate someone. She—"

"And yet, not a single one of Ms. Ziegler's social media accounts has ever mentioned Michael Devereaux. Not even once."

Nathan tapped his knuckles against the desk twice. His voice remained perfectly flat, but it carried an unmistakable edge of mockery.

"Is this what the entertainment industry considers an obsessed hater these days?"
