The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 388

The gold-rimmed glasses resting on his nose slightly softened that coldness, giving him a refined, scholarly vibe.

"Tsk."

Valerie gave her brutally honest assessment. "Usually, guys who look like this are totally two-faced."

Speechless, Nora closed the browser and set her phone on the vanity. "You don't even know him and you're already judging him?"

"I think you're just prejudiced because he's your blind date."

"I'm not being petty! It's just the vibe I get from the photo. Think about it—in TV shows and novels, aren't guys with this exact aesthetic always icy and pure on the outside, but completely unhinged behind closed doors?"

"Stoic saint in public, total freak in the sheets."

"Pfft—"

Nora never expected Valerie's chaotic train of thought to pull into that particular station. "Alright, alright. If you don't like him, just say no when the time comes. I'm just warning you, this guy is a big deal. He has twenty million followers online."

"Tread carefully. If you offend him and get dragged online, it's going to be brutal."

Valerie scoffed. "Just twenty million? Do you know how many followers my Michael has?"

Nora rolled her eyes. "He's *your* Michael, but he isn't you."

"Fair point."

Nora smiled helplessly. "Okay, that's enough. Go shower so we can sleep. It's been a long day."

Valerie finally quieted down. She nodded. "Hurry up then. I'll jump in after you."

"Will do."

Nora finished removing her makeup and went into the bathroom to shower.

By the time she was applying her lotion, Valerie had grabbed her pajamas and swapped places with her.

Nora gave Valerie the bathroom, but before she could grab the hairdryer, her phone buzzed.

She unlocked it to find a two-word text from Nathan: [Come out.]

Nathan's face fell. "Is it that obvious?"

Nora shook her head. "I was just bluffing."

Realizing he had walked right into a trap, Nathan pressed his lips together, reached out, and pulled her out of the room.

Caught off guard, Nora crashed straight into his chest. The fresh, clean scent of citrus body wash hit her, and her entire face instantly burned scarlet.

"What are you doing!"

She lightly pounded his chest. "If someone sees us..."

They were both in their pajamas, standing way too close... a man and a woman alone in the middle of the night. It would be impossible for anyone *not* to get the wrong idea!

"No one's coming up here."

Nathan pressed her firmly against him, letting out a deep sigh of utter contentment.

"Do you really think the staff in the Peyton household are that clueless? Relax. Even if they saw us, they'd pretend they were blind."
