Nora instantly understood what he meant by 'clueless.'
She couldn't help but laugh. "They're just doing their jobs. Why does that make them clueless in your eyes?"
Nathan inhaled the scent of the shampoo lingering in her hair, gently running his fingers over her damp hair towel. Instead of answering her question, he asked, "Why haven't you dried your hair yet?"
"I was just about to when you knocked on the door," Nora replied.
Nathan let out a low chuckle.
"My fault."
"Come to my room. I'll dry it for you."
Nora looked up at him suspiciously. "Your room?"
Seeing the immediate guard go up in her eyes, Nathan raised an eyebrow. "What? Are you worried I'm going to try something?"
"I didn't say that," Nora rushed to correct him.
"But if someone walks in on us, there's no way I can explain it."
"Why does it matter?"
Nora glared at him. Seeing how utterly unbothered he looked only made her more irritated.
"It matters a lot."
It was her first night staying at her fiancé's family home. If she was caught sneaking into his bedroom in her pajamas, people would think she was entirely shameless.
Even though she knew the Peyton household was tightly run and no one would dare gossip, she had to think of her mother's reputation.
People might not say it to her face, but behind her back, they would absolutely whisper that a girl raised by a single mother was 'easy.'
Seeing how serious she was, Nathan sighed. "I was just messing with you."
"There's a hairdryer downstairs. I'll take you down there."
Nora had been bracing herself for a full-blown argument.
She had even mentally prepared to grab Valerie and flee back to her own apartment if things went south.
"Mr. Peyton, Ms. Hayes."
"Your warm water and milk."
The staff member placed the glasses quietly on the coffee table in front of them.
"Thanks. If that's everything, go ahead and get some rest."
The staff member smiled, murmured a polite "Of course," and slipped away seamlessly.
Soon, the only sounds left in the massive living room were the hum of the hairdryer and the steady rhythm of their breathing.
Nora gripped the pocket of her pajamas tightly. After a long moment, she softly said, "I'm sorry."
Nathan let out a low "Hmm?" The rising pitch carried obvious confusion.
"For what?"
Nora pressed her lips together, ducking her head in embarrassment. "About earlier..."
