Valerie looked at Nora with absolute admiration. "You're hardcore."

Nora just smiled.

Seeing that Valerie had calmed down, Nora said, "I'm going to the study for a bit. Go to sleep if you're tired."

"Okay."

Knowing the two of them were going to dive back into the case, Valerie added, "The fan meet is scheduled. They sent out a mass notification tonight."

Nora paused in her tracks. "Already?"

Was Michael done with his business in Luminport City?

"Yeah, he was never going to stay in Luminport City for long. He promised to hold a fan meet, and a lot of fans have already traveled here. His team probably wants to get it over with so everyone can go home. It's not safe to linger, and more importantly, it burns through money."

Nora nodded. "That's true."

Out-of-town fans were spending hundreds of dollars a day just on hotels.

Plus food, and they couldn't just sit in their hotel rooms all day; they were bound to spend money on other things.

"Remind me again when the date gets closer."

Nora had active cases at the department, so she really needed to coordinate her schedule.

"Will do. I'll give you a heads-up the day before."

"Sounds good."

With that settled, Nora headed to Nathan's study.

He was looking at something on his computer. Nora knocked on the slightly ajar door and walked in. "Did you find out?"

"Identity confirmed."

"Clara Caldwell was indeed Lawrence's mother."

Nathan waved Nora over.

"Clara stayed in her hometown all these years. When Lawrence first disappeared, people went looking for her. They were skeptical when she claimed she didn't know where he was, but as the years went by and Lawrence never reached out to her, they finally gave up."

Nathan tapped his computer screen.

"The money went into Lawrence's account and was withdrawn the exact same day. After that, it vanished."

"Bank security footage from ten years ago is incredibly grainy, and since a decade has passed, we can't definitively confirm if the person who withdrew the money was even Lawrence."

"The most crucial detail is why Lawrence went bankrupt."

"If it was a standard bankruptcy, he wouldn't have just disappeared."

"Exactly." Nora agreed that Lawrence's vanishing act was far too suspicious.

She couldn't shake the feeling that the company going under and the contracts being sold were highly irregular.

But what could have possibly happened ten years ago?

Those artists were now thriving on the big screen. Aside from the recent blackmail letters, they hadn't experienced anything unusual over the years.

"Nora, do you think the blackmail letters and the Lawrence Gunn situation are part of the same case?"
