Nathan's words struck Nora like a bolt of lightning, illuminating the dark corners of her mind.
A thought flashed through her consciousness, but before she could grasp it and examine it closer, it vanished without a trace.
She felt her heart rate rapidly spiking, her breathing growing noticeably heavier. "You mean..."
Nathan frowned slightly when he saw her reaction, reaching out to gently rub her back.
"I'm just proposing a hypothesis, why are you getting so worked up?"
"Come on, take a deep breath with me—"
Nathan exaggeratedly inhaled a deep breath of air.
Seeing his stubborn expression that practically said he wouldn't continue unless she complied, Nora shook her head helplessly and took a deep breath with him.
A flicker of amusement passed through Nathan's eyes as he slowly exhaled.
Nora copied him, and the suffocating wave of tension that had electrified her body finally dissipated.
"Better?"
Nora nodded, catching the smug look in his eyes, and couldn't help but say, "You're so childish."
He had just forced her to do a breathing exercise.
Was there really a need to be this pleased with himself?
"That's because doing anything with you makes me happy."
"And—"
Nathan's gaze roamed over her with a deeply suggestive look.
Her sixth sense screamed that whatever he was about to say next was going to be infuriating.
But her damn curiosity got the better of her, and she blurted out, "And what?"
Nathan pinched her cheek, a wicked grin spreading across his face.
"And you looked exactly like a goldfish when you exhaled just now."
Nora: "..."
She had been compared to a cat and a dog before, but never a goldfish.
"How is this pushing my luck?"
He tightened his grip, pulling her flush against him.
Realizing their chests were about to collide, Nora let out a soft gasp and quickly threw her arm up as a barrier between them.
While it prevented their upper bodies from pressing together, her forearm was pressed firmly against the solid wall of his chest. Even through his shirt, the dense, resilient muscle was intoxicating.
She couldn't resist pressing down slightly.
Feeling the muscle flex beneath her arm, Nora's eyes lit up.
Nathan let out a breath that was half-laugh, half-groan. He hadn't expected her to ignore the intimacy of the moment entirely and focus on playing with his chest.
"Nora, you're making me feel like a complete failure right now."
The deep vibration of his voice right above her head finally made Nora realize just how compromising their position was.
She cleared her throat, suddenly not knowing where to look to hide her embarrassment.
Perhaps blinded by his sheer physical perfection, she blurted out exactly what she was thinking, "How are you a failure? You're incredibly successful."
