The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 423

The two of them headed straight for the upscale mall to find The Concorde Hotel.

While not the most famous spot in Luminport City, its downtown location and luxury apartment-style suites made it incredibly popular with tourists. People visiting for vacations or events loved booking rooms here.

The mall was right downstairs, entertainment venues were everywhere, and there was a direct shuttle to the stadium. Tourists coming for concerts almost exclusively favored this place.

Because of this, the rates were astronomically high year-round. During peak season, it rivaled the finest five-star resorts.

Stepping through the main doors, Nora took one look at the lobby and instantly grasped the vibe.

Back when she was an intern in the Forensics Division, she had traveled constantly.

She had stayed in countless hotels and motels.

Her senior mentor had taught her a three-point rule for judging a hotel's interior.

The Concorde fit the exact profile of "overpriced, mediocre service, and lackluster decor."

It wasn't worth a dime of its exorbitant rate.

"Mr. Peyton."

Manager Lawson had been pacing dejectedly while on the phone.

Seeing Nathan return, he hurriedly hung up and rushed over. "Is there something else you need?"

The police had already done a sweep. Having them return made the manager tremble with anxiety.

A murder was a massive headache; if it escalated into a broader scandal, he would have to resign in disgrace!

The hospitality industry was notoriously superstitious about these things. If a property under his management had a death and he was fired, his career in the industry would be over.

At his age, losing his job meant his family would go hungry.

"We need to walk through the scene again," Nathan said.

"I'll escort you."

Nathan frowned slightly, politely declining. "No need. We can find our way."

The manager hesitated. "Should I have a staff member guide you, then?"

"Most of them wanted to leave."

After all, a fatal fall had just occurred, and the police had locked down the area.

No one dared to stay, so most had simply checked out.

"What about the rest?"

"We transferred them to another hotel owned by our company."

"They didn't want the hassle of booking a new place, so we accommodated their requests."

Nora nodded.

If the investigation ruled out a homicide, the hotel could resume normal operations fairly quickly.

But if the guests were too terrified to stay, there was no point in convincing them.

"W-we're here," the employee stammered just as the elevator chimed and the doors slid open.
