The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 427

A chauffeur for a celebrity?

Given that their current high-profile case revolved entirely around a famous pop star, a specific name instantly popped into Nora's head.

Nathan was clearly on the same page. He pushed off the whiteboard. "The rest of you, keep running down the leads we just discussed. I'm taking the interrogation."

Nora stood up. "I'm coming with you."

Nathan gave a curt nod and led the way.

Nora fell in right on his heels.

They approached the interrogation room and looked through the two-way glass, immediately recognizing the man sitting inside.

"That's Michael's driver."

Nora remembered him vividly. She had seen him being chewed out publicly by Quinn.

Nathan gave the observing officers a brief nod before stepping into the room.

Nora stayed behind the glass, watching the exchange.

"Mr. Peyton?"

Toby's eyes lit up slightly at the sight of a familiar face, though he quickly rubbed his cheek, looking a bit awkward. "Good to see you, officer."

Nathan took the seat across from him.

"Why were you at The Concorde Hotel?"

Toby blinked, genuinely baffled by the question.

"Is there a problem with that?"

Behind the glass, Nora raised an eyebrow.

Judging by his reaction, Toby had absolutely no idea someone had plummeted to their death at the mall.

Nathan laid it out.

Toby's eyes went wide. "S-she fell? How is that even possible?"

His shock seemed entirely authentic, completely lacking the practiced polish of a lie. Nathan tapped his knuckles against the table. "You really didn't know?"

"We all agreed to it."

Nathan let out a slow hum. "So, you're saying someone else from your crew used your ID to book that room?"

"Yes. And I highly doubt that was the only room our team booked that day."

"What makes you say that?"

Toby shifted his hands restlessly on the table, looking torn over whether he should spill the details.

Nathan deployed his limitless patience, waiting in absolute silence without rushing him.

"I heard Quinn wanted to reward the crew for dealing with Michael's crazy schedule. Since the fan event in Luminport City hasn't officially kicked off yet, she gave everyone a few days off to hang out around town."

"The Concorde is in a prime location, and since Quinn wanted everyone nearby, I assume the whole crew was put up there."

The explanation was seamless.

It made perfect, logical sense.
