The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 45

Such familiar words.

In an instant, Nora's mind was pulled back to that rainy night years ago.

When Nora was in college, Grace's health had already begun to decline.

After a check-up, the doctor told Nora that Grace's heart was overloaded from long-term overwork. If she didn't rest properly, her life could be in danger at any moment.

Nora was terrified and refused to let Grace work anymore.

Grace said, "Even though your excellent grades got you a full scholarship that covers tuition, you're in college now. Your living expenses can't be as meager as they were in high school. You need to buy things like clothes, shoes, a phone, a computer, and makeup."

"Nora, I don't want people to laugh at you or look down on you because of how you dress."

"I have to work hard to give you the things other kids have."

Nora tearfully insisted that she could work part-time to earn money.

Grace was angry.

"Earn what? You're a student. Your priority is your studies. Other college students are joining clubs or dating. You should try to experience college life too, instead of being crushed by money worries every day!"

"I'll figure out the money. You don't need to worry."

Nora angrily argued with Grace. In the end, only by threatening to drop out of school did she convince Grace to let her earn her own living expenses.

Grace, in turn, would rest at home.

Nora's life was very difficult during that time. She had her major courses during the day, went to the library to do research whenever she had a free moment, and worked at night.

Weekends were even more hectic.

Fortunately, she found a job at a restaurant that was not too demanding, with flexible hours. In her downtime, Nora could still write papers and read.

The restaurant owner was very kind to her at first, even giving her extra food from time to time.

Nora thought she had met a good person, but after she had worked there for half a month, the owner showed his true colors.
