Amidst the laughter and banter, two officers climbed into the back of Nathan's SUV. Once everyone was piled into the fleet of cars, Nathan hit the gas, leading the convoy out of the precinct.
From the back seat, the two officers kept dragging Nora into conversations about the intricacies of Maisie's murder.
In between answering them, Nora checked her phone, texting Valerie.
She had initially hoped Valerie would join them for lunch to get out of her head.
Plus, with a squad full of relatively handsome detectives, Valerie's usual appreciation for eye candy might have served as a decent distraction.
But Valerie was still drowning in the aftermath of Michael's ruin and had zero interest in socializing.
After a few attempts, Nora realized she truly wanted to be alone and didn't push it.
[You guys have fun. You've been working crazy hours, so enjoy the break. Don't worry about me. I don't know your coworkers anyway; it would just be awkward, and you'd have to babysit me. I'm totally fine! We'll talk when you get back.]
Reading the text, Nora smiled and replied with a cute, nodding sticker before locking her screen.
Noticing her expression, Nathan raised an eyebrow. "Who was that?"
Nora mentioned it was Valerie and quickly explained her concerns.
Hearing the conversation, the officers in the back chimed in.
"Man, a lot of Michael's fans are having absolute meltdowns today. My social media feed is flooded with them crying."
"Mine too..."
"I just can't believe he actually killed someone. I've watched all his shows; the guy was a genuinely phenomenal actor."
Nora listened to them, her expression completely unreadable.
In her eyes, Michael didn't turn evil overnight. Just like Aaron Wells.
Maybe Aaron truly loved her in the beginning, but time and ambition had poisoned him.
"Did they find what they were looking for?"
Nathan shook his head. "No."
Nora didn't know whether to breathe a sigh of relief or scream at the sheer audacity of these criminals.
Looking back, Quinn and Michael must have been making some sort of illicit deal in their car. Sophie likely did something that made them paranoid she had recorded it. That panic led to the abrupt brake check that caused the crash. The break-in was undoubtedly them trying to retrieve the imaginary footage.
The realization hit Nora like a physical blow.
"Can we go by my apartment first?"
"Why?"
She grabbed his arm, lowering her voice. "Sophie's camera! She gave it to me back then; there might be clues on it!"
