The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 487

Nora was silent for a long time.

Her gaze rested on Nathan's face, taking in his absolute sincerity.

As she looked at him, a tear suddenly slipped down her cheek.

Nathan startled, his immediate instinct to reach out and catch it.

But the crystalline drop brushed past his hand, falling straight to the ground.

It made no sound, yet it hit Nathan's heart like a heavy, suffocating blow.

"Nora, why are you crying?"

His voice softened instinctively, laced with intense heartache.

"Do you hate this?"

Remembering how much Nora preferred keeping things low-key, he figured she probably despised the pressure of such grand romantic gestures. He frowned in frustration with himself, immediately apologizing. "I'm so sorry. I was only thinking about what I wanted and completely ignored your feelings. If you hate it, we don't have to do it. Okay?"

"I wasn't trying to force you into anything. I just thought most girls dreamed of the romance of a proposal and a wedding, and I didn't want you to miss out."

When Nora still didn't respond, Nathan started speaking faster, panic flooding his eyes. "Nora, please tell me what you're thinking. If you're upset, just say it. Don't bottle it up."

"I just want to give you everything I have. I didn't mean to pressure you. If this makes you uncomfortable, don't force yourself to accept it."

"I only did this because I wanted to make you happy, not to make you cry."

Nora was simply afraid that if she opened her mouth, her voice would break. She didn't want to embarrass herself in front of him, which was why she had hesitated to speak.

She hadn't expected Nathan to spiral and pour out an entire monologue during her brief silence.

Every word he said sent shockwaves through her heart.

Nora knew that their reunion, and even their marriage, had been carefully orchestrated by him.

But she never realized a man as commanding as Nathan could be so terrifyingly insecure about losing her.
