What if the killer behind this case was simply a psychopath whose only goal was to cause mass terror?
The more Nora thought about it, the darker her eyes became.
She quickly rinsed off the suds, and after confirming no soap was left on her skin, she shut off the shower.
Valerie waited outside for a long time without hearing a response. She was just about to ask Nora why she was ignoring her.
But just as she opened her mouth, the bathroom door was suddenly pulled open from the inside.
Valerie's eyes widened. "You showered that fast?"
Nora hummed in agreement, practically launching herself at Valerie to wrap her in a tight hug. "Valerie, you are my absolute lucky charm!"
Before Valerie could react, Nora released her, sprinted to the bed, grabbed her phone, and started furiously typing.
Suddenly hugged and then completely ignored, Valerie stood there looking entirely bewildered.
She had no idea what Nora meant by that, but seeing how frantically her friend was working, she decided not to interrupt.
"Never mind, never mind. You cops are all so busy. I'll just be a good girl and go to sleep."
After saying that, Valerie added, "I'm going to bed. Don't stay up too late," before pulling the covers over herself.
Nora didn't even look up. She gave a quick hum of acknowledgment and then reached over to flick off the room's lights.
Seeing this, Valerie gave a helpless smile, made sure Nora's side of the blanket was neat, and closed her eyes.
Inside the dark room, only the rapid, rhythmic tapping of Nora's nails against her screen could be heard, strangely hypnotic.
Valerie's anxiety about her blind date vanished entirely amidst the soft sound, and she soon fell into a deep sleep.
Nora spent half the night mapping out the case with her team, finally establishing a clear, working timeline.
Seeing Nathan's message in the group chat suggesting they follow this new direction tomorrow, Nora suddenly realized none of them had slept.
[Alright, let's handle this tomorrow. Get some rest first.]
Nathan immediately replied: [Okay, goodnight.]
Nora also replied with a goodnight.
The rest of the group was quiet for a full minute before someone finally piped up to complain.
