The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 514

"And guess what happened? The valedictorian who had been beating her all year suddenly came down with a mysterious illness the day of the exam. She took the top spot by default."

Mia stared blankly at her phone.

"How does that even count? A kid caught a flu bug. That has absolutely nothing to do with this Wishmaster guy."

"Look, I know how it sounds. But it's just a fun little ritual."

"But because so many of the wishes actually came true, the legend just kept growing."

"What else?" Mia pressed.

If she was going to entrust her future to this guy, she needed to know exactly what he was capable of.

She wasn't about to get scammed by some internet grifter.

"The most famous one was this guy whose dad had terminal cancer. He needed exactly two hundred thousand dollars for an experimental treatment, so he made a wish."

"And then?"

"Two days later, an anonymous wire transfer for two hundred grand hit his bank account. The note simply said it was a gift."

Mia's eyes widened in disbelief.

There was no way a story like that was real. It sounded like an urban legend.

Even without seeing her face, Lindsay could tell Mia was hooked.

She paused for dramatic effect. "But there's one more story. The one that completely sold me on the site."

"A girl I used to know was getting blackmailed by a guy she was sleeping with."

"She got blackout drunk one night, logged onto the site, and wished that he would die in a horrific car crash."

A cold prickle of apprehension crawled up Mia's spine.

"And it... came true?" she whispered.
