The Captain I Married by Chance novel Chapter 528

Back then, Aaron genuinely cared for Nora. He told her that commuting back and forth was exhausting and they should just eat out.

What had Nora said?

Even with bone-deep exhaustion etched into her face, she had given him a bright smile. "It's fine! Home-cooked meals are safer. We're already working so hard, we can't afford to get sick."

"That would really mess things up."

"Besides, cooking doesn't take that long. It's nothing fancy, but it'll do."

Aaron had been incredibly touched. He hugged her tight and promised, "I'll cook from now on, too."

"I won't let you do all the hard work yourself."

Nora's smile had been so sweet.

"Okay, we'll take turns."

His love for her back then had been so pure.

But slowly, things changed.

He never kept his promise to cook for her. Instead, he just got entirely too comfortable soaking up her endless care.

Now, looking at Mia sitting comfortably on the bed, chatting energetically on the phone without a single word of concern for him, his chest physically ached. She hadn't asked if he was hungry, or tired, or okay. It felt like a massive chunk of his heart had been violently ripped out.

A freezing draft swept through the room, making him shiver uncontrollably.

Pulling out his phone, he opened the FoodChimp app to order some dinner.

Suddenly, a deafening scream shattered the quiet room.

Aaron nearly dropped his phone.

"What happened?! What's wrong?!"

A nurse sprinted down the hall and burst through the door.

Mia looked like she had completely lost her mind. She threw her phone across the room and began frantically clawing at her own throat.

"Urgh—"

The violent sound of her gagging echoed off the walls. The deranged look in her eyes made Aaron's blood run cold.
