"Don't you start!"
Nora shot Nathan a sharp glare. "Why did you absolutely insist on shoving me into the spotlight?"
"How am I supposed to look the rest of the Special Task Force in the eye?"
Seeing her flushed with embarrassment, Nathan chuckled softly to soothe her. "The news didn't lie, though."
"If you hadn't been the first to spot the human bones at that restaurant, we never would have been able to trace the breadcrumbs and crack the Costello Ranch murders."
It was a gruesome, financially motivated double homicide buried for years.
If that buffet hadn't been inspected due to the scandal, God only knew how long Frank Farrell's family and his uncle's remains would have stayed hidden in the dark.
"I just pulled the first thread."
"The entire team worked themselves to the bone to uncover the truth. How can I justify hogging all the glory?"
"You aren't hogging anything."
"It was a perfect storm of timing, location, and public interest."
Nathan let out a faint sigh. "Do you remember that multi-industry competition show we talked about?"
Realization instantly dawned on Nora.
"They're generating hype?"
Nathan hummed in agreement.
"The details of this case were too horrifying. The moment the investigation went public, it sparked massive outrage."
"While the public was terrified by the truth, it also ignited a fierce curiosity about forensic science and criminal investigations."
"It aligns perfectly with the show's concept. The producers pulled strings behind the scenes to fan the flames, which is why your popularity is skyrocketing right now."
While Nora understood the logistics, she still felt deeply uncomfortable with the execution.
"Don't worry. No one on the team cares about the spotlight."
Nora shook her head, murmuring, "It's not about caring. Everyone bled for this case. Seeing me get all the praise is like doing a massive group project in college and only one person gets their name on the final paper. Anyone would be furious."
Nathan knew Nora's moral compass was exceptionally strict.
