Leonard looked as if he had been struck by lightning, freezing in place with disbelief written all over his face.

"How could that be?"

He looked at her, and it was hard to tell if he was murmuring to himself or putting on a deliberate show.

"Even though things ended badly between your mother and me, we were husband and wife for so many years."

"She is the most soft-hearted person. She would never treat me like that."

Nora let out a mocking laugh.

"She was soft-hearted, so you felt entitled to cheat on her with no remorse. Is that it?"

"Do you have any shame left, Leonard?"

Panic flickered in his eyes. He instinctively wanted to defend himself, but the words died in his throat.

Nora truly didn't have time to waste on him. Tossing out a sharp, "Don't follow me unless you want me to say something worse," she turned and hurried away.

Leonard stared at her retreating figure, the disappointed look on his face shifting into cold indifference.

Once she disappeared behind the elevator doors, his true nature surfaced.

He let out a scoff of disgust, muttered a vicious curse aimed at Mia and her mother, and then pulled out his phone to call his secretary.

"Look into Nora's situation over the past few years for me."

Since Mia was practically useless now, Leonard was determined to bring Nora back into the fold.

If his apologies couldn't win her over, he would try a different angle.
